I need to remove the spine spikes from the dragon. And while I can do it with magnets it is taking a rather long time. Anyone already do it?

Instead of trying to do it with magnets you might try using a transparency map in which the spikes are transparent. On my web site I have a picture of a woman riding a dragon in which I used a transparency map to remove the spikes from his back. You can see the picture at http://members.aol.com/ljcpics2/drgnrdr.jpg

Thanks, but I tried that. The outline of the spikes can still be seen.

heyas; to make the transparent spikes REALLY transparent, set all the colours to black, the min/max to 100 (of course) and make sure the falloff is zero.

btw... the fastest way to do it with magnets would be to use the group tool on each part that has spikes you want to remove. create a new group (name it spikes) and include the spike material. then slap a huge honking magnet on the whole thing, set the mag zone to affect only the group 'spikes;' add all the body parts to the magnet's influence, then shrink the sucker down to a teeny tiny point. hide it inside the dragon's belly; then spawn morph targets for each part. (though if you do it this REALLY quick way, some odd little dots might fly out of the stomack if you move, say, the tail tip; being as the tiny spikes will still move with each body part.)

No. Nobody likes you. That's why we have those people watching you wherever you go, Listening to your phone calls and opening your mail. Just wait until the revolution when our black helicopters swoop down upon you and. . . . Ahem. Sorry about that. No, I have no problem with you. Nor does my secret army of loyal followers. (It must be secret as even they don't know about it.) It's just those darn pointy thing on the dragon. It makes it hard to skateboard down his back.

The magnets worked fine until I got to the abdomen. I just cannot get those puppies to hide without tearing up the skin something fierce. I just got the obj to process through my handy perl utilities and I think I'm going to just skrag the spikes in the obj file. We will see how this works.

heyas; well... I like you, spike. :)

Hey, if you manage to remove the non-Spike spikes, could you post a cr2 file or something? I held off buying the dragon for a long time because of the spikes but I finally broke down and bought it. (Broke is the right word! ;-} )

I had to edit the OBJ. I regrouped it so the materials were easily seperable, then just deleted the 8 or 9 spine groups. I'll try to get it set up in pcf format and stuck on my site in a day or two. But you can actually get the spikes almost totally hidden if you set the colors like Bloodsong suggested above. There is just a vague hint that they exist.

Northpoint go boom. DSL line fail. Blame AT&T, Verizion and Canadian Imperial Bank Commerce. Should be back up in month or two, unless I move first. Sorry about that. Email me your address and I'll try to get it out to you. Kevin
