I am told (albeit 2nd hand) by someone employed by our provincial government that certain Canadian ministries (beyond law enforcement) have access to sections of Facebook profiles that one would normally think restricted. (e.g. they can see everything as though you have "friended" them even if your privacy settings limit views to specific individuals). It would not surprise me to find out that this is true, or that other governments have similar access to their citizens'/residents' profiles as a matter of course.
