Art is quite simply what the "artist" sees, nothing more, nothing less! What is art to some is not art to others, so what, you pays your money and takes your choice! As for "stock" items, sure we all use them but it's how we use them that differs and some, like me have no intention of ever making my own props, etc. because most of the software that would enable me to do a good job is too pricey so I just buy what I need when I need it.
