The shapes are numbered, and if they don't have the SAME number, then they won't connect. If you select one of them, look in the properties tab and there is a description of what number that shape is. Set all of them to 1 and they will skin from one section to the next. There is also a button for connecting the sections that is in the same place. If that isn't clicked, then they won't connect. Hope this helps!
