The New Forums Have Arrived!

The AVATARS are HERE!!

Yesterday, the Renderosity Forums were converted from the old Bondware EZ platform, to the new Bondware 3.0 PHP software.

One of the most requested forum features arrived Tuesday, April 4th. The Renderosity forums now has Artist Avatars!

On Tuesday, the forums were down for a few hours as we coverted to the new Bondware 3.0 software, which is on a PHP based platform.

In addition to the new Avatars, there will be several new features available with the PHP forums:
  • Subscribe to a Thread - Allows you to keep track of when someone has posted to the thread without having to post to the thread.
  • Quotes- Can be used to post a witty saying or to copy a post of another person then answer them so people can know what you are talking about.
  • We will now have Stickies
  • Announcements - Used by the Renderosity Team to post Special Announcements and news of interest
  • Faster Performance

The look and feel of the new Bondware 3.0 forums are considerably different than the old EZ forums that we have all grown accustomed to. They may take some getting used to. However, we know that in the long run, the new PHP based forums will provide greater flexibility, more features and overall faster site performance than the old Bondware EZ platform we have been using for the past 7 years.

We are all in this together and are thankful that you are here to share this important event with us. We are eager to hear your feedback and suggestions surrounding the new forums after you have had a chance to try them out.

We are looking forward to seeing what wonderful fun we can all have with the new Avatars!

Your Dedicated Renderosity Team!!!

hmm "Subscribe to a Thread - Allows you to keep track of when someone has posted to the thread without having to post to the thread." more importantly.. will there be UNSubscribe to a Thread?

I'm really hoping that the animations will be included in the galleries when the php ones come - and that we'll finally be able to have comments on them.

avatars sound good - qoutes are just annoying.

Absolutely fantastic! Looking forward to the new changes for sure! :)

i'm hoping that there's a "low-bandwidth" option where you can just view the pertinent information in a thread without wading through billions of dancing avatars, witty sig lines and other material. also, an RSS feed would be great!

Looking forward to this change-over, Clint. It'll enhance things, no doubt. Personally, I like avatars. They help to give a flavor of personality to a forum. As for the quotations: "It's a good thing for an uneducated man to read books of quotations." - Winston Churchill Or lots of 'em in a forum.

I'll miss the old format...it is like a comfortable shoe...but even comfortable shoes need to be traded in occassionally. I look forward to the new features and better performance. Hooray for subscribing...no more unwanted Ebots! =o] What will happen to the content of the old EZ forums?

Oooh finally! Anywhere where you can see the sizelimits for the new avatars (in both pixels and kb) so we can like start creating them now?!

soul_survivor ( posted at 12:00AM Fri, 31 March 2006

Congratulations. Most other forums I visit are PHP-based, and I like it!!! Now maybe RDNA will follow suit?!

Are we going with a custom php board system, or are we going to be using one of the pre-made board softwares out there? If we are going with the pre-made - will it be phpbb or VBB?

I just hope mods go easy on the Stickies! I really hate them when they fill up the page and you have to scroll down to read the messages. Otherwise, I'm sure it will be better than ever! :) Irene

StaceyG ( posted at 12:00AM Fri, 31 March 2006

I've got a message in to the programmers regarding the size limits on the avatars:) Stacey

Hmm. The conversion to the new format may not be so jarring as the color scheme. How's that going to work?

StaceyG ( posted at 12:00AM Fri, 31 March 2006

thanks Nicholas:)

Xena ( posted at 12:00AM Fri, 31 March 2006

I spent over 130 hours writing this forums module completely from scratch. As a 'fiddler' of PHP myself I can see that you now have no tan (lack of going outside), no hair (pulled it all out), spit all over the monitor (from yelling at it all the time), empty coffee cups lined up along your desk (once you're in the groove you don't stop for anything!) and notepad stickies everything (to help remember those annoying little code snippets. LMAO Looking forward to the new forum :)
