Site Enhancements

tim · September 23, 2000 9:45 pm

Our team has been hard at work improving elements of this site. Your suggestions in the "Community Improvement Ideas" forum have been invaluable in this process. In addition to the improvements listed here, we are making many behind the scenes improvements to the site. Here's a quick run-down of recent improvements: * The View Random gallery page now shows a thumbnail page just like the other sorting options. * You can choose how many thumbnail images to display on the gallery pages * The store artists can now pull up many different reports on their previous store sales. * You can now preview a post to the forums. * The Online Store now has a shopping cart. * In addition to the Overall Hot 50 in the gallery, each section now has it's own Hot 20. To see it, first click on a gallery section, then you will see the Overall Hot 50 link replaced with the {gallery section} Hot 20. We hope you will enjoy these new features and suggest any others that may be needed in the "Community Improvement Ideas" forum. Staff

mmm. the pick your own color option sounds familar ;)

imho, its rather the file-size that matters! Please consider to put e.g. (800x600 - 350kB) below a thumbnail in the Gallery! Would be much more helpful. Hubert

Personally, i liked that old rating system.
If someone got balls to bring her/his art
here to be rated, its more than fair to let
her/him see who is gonna give you and what.

If i'm gonna rate something, i'm also gonna
stand behind my words(or numbers).

im must say i like the new features especially the thumbnail part...and since you guys are triing to impress us like to suggest that you have the artist of the month (every month and not every 2 - 4 months) again in the same format not sure wether you guys took it out or anything cause its not there anymore...thanks nnuu

Kewl. We have hardware now. huh huhuh he said hard...

Overall loks great but it's getting slower and slower and slower. Are you guys using a flatfile database for all this stuff? That's what it feels like. Other than that I love this area as it gives me great feedback for what works and what doesn't. Have mixed feelings about the no-see ratings thing (as a person who submits work) and agree with Antoonio for the most part.

AWESOME! I love the color scheme option. Great idea! Just a thought, could you possibly add an option where you can choose the a:hover? So when your cursor goes over a link, it changes colors? Keep up the good work guys!

The adjustments are quite good. I would like to see the availalbilty to link to an html page from the files section which would enable members to download from that link. A lot of hosting companies are not allowing direct linking of files from outside sites. My hosting company is getting nervous about it and they are a paid host.

I'll tell you what I hate. I hate having to set cookies to accept any that are sent to me without my being able to accept them. This is a major annoyance to me. Some sites set as many as 50 cookies and I don't see why I cannot choose to accept or deny them.

Well I really like the Community Projects Area being added (I suggested it after all), but nobody seems to have looked at the project I posted. If someone here has some free time and would consider helping, why not check it out?

You say "10/11/00 * Added the Requests forum", but I can't find the Requests forum. How do I access it?

(1) Thank God that that silly bug-causing "punch the monkey" banner ad seems to have finally gone away. (2) If it can be managed, in the art gallery and the Psoer Free Stuff, a separate classification for "best non-erotic" would be useful, so that people like me who have no skill or aptitude in making erotica, do not find that despite their best efforts they never make top ranking because erotica always seem to get the most downloads.

I don't like the new orders in the forums. I think it was MUCH better when the most recent posts were at the top, not the most recent replies. Some of us don't respond to some threads because we don't know the answer to the question or we just want anything to do with that certain thread, so we don't want to keep seeing that thread at the top of the forum list where new posts should be posted. For the people who still want to reply to the thread will receive an e-mail. Old posts should continue to the bottom of the list and new posts should be at the top.

ookami ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 18 October 2000

I don't like the new orders in the forums either. Please change it back.

praxis22 ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 18 October 2000

The new order definately sucks. I keep losing threads, I refresh the window and everything changes...

roobol ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 18 October 2000

I agree with Antoonio, this anonymous rating is stupid and doesn't stimulate communication. I don't rate anymore since people wouldn't know what I gave them anyway. Furthermore, best ratings by average is OK but it doesn't make sense. Adding an option best rating by total would be more just to the artists who got 50 tens and a nine (as it would preempt potentials Zoohs (but who was that...)).

roobol ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 18 October 2000

I noticed that since yesterday, non-members are no longer able to access the art galeries. Members presumably haven't noticed, but I did so by sheer coincidence, trying to show my gallery to a friend from another computer than mine. I consider this to be a serious issue. I post my work freely, for the world to see and judge. If limits the world to renderosity members, it looses its mere reason of existence.

Ironbear ( posted at 12:00AM Thu, 19 October 2000

On the Poll, I went with the if it aint broke option cause I didn't see the one I'd prefer - an either or option: A check box to have it display the whole thread or only list the 1st post and number of replies. Harder to code, but best of both worlds. Without that, I prefer the way they are now to the way other forums are done, we have the best forum layout here that I've seen so far.

graphicfreak ( posted at 12:00AM Fri, 20 October 2000

I really think annonymous ratings is pretty stupid. People post ratings and suggestions to help the artist improve, not to criticize their work. So I think annonymous ratings is pointless. And what if someone posts a comment that is a little confusing...the artist might want to contact that person for more details on how to improve, or to explain something confusing. With annonymous ratings, the artist will have to just ignore that suggestion without any understanding or much help. Please put the ratings back the way it was. This community is to make friends, and to bring people together. WIth this new idea of annonymous ratings makes it harder for people to connect with one another and share thoughts and ideas openly.

I've been pretty open in my praise for the nice things and good changes being done, in several places. But you guys have lost me on this one... Having to be a member to view the galleries is not an enhancement, it's a detraction. Sorry RC, can't hang on this one.

Ironbear ( posted at 12:00AM Sun, 22 October 2000

Btw, I didn't mean to pick on RC specifically in that last post. He does a great job, and I don't believe that the galleries/memberships thing was his call. Chalk it up to fatigue toxins. When I get ready to gripe on that one, I'll aim my comments appropriatly, in the "appropriate forum". Not at innocent bystanders.

dragongirl ( posted at 12:00AM Mon, 23 October 2000

I was interested to see the Hot 100 list - but surprised when my picture in the Bryce Gallery, posted Oct. 22 with 54 views wasn't on it - other pics with 54 views WERE on it (at the 70's level) - same posting day or the day before. Is this because I don't allow Ranking Numbers? If so - that should be changed. It would also be nice to have a small award gif that folks could post on their site - for making the list on such-and-such a date. thanks - dg

wyrmmaster ( posted at 12:00AM Tue, 24 October 2000

I think the hot 100 should go back to the 7 day format. That way people know what's going on throughout the week, not just on the weekend. I noticed there are alot more hits on the weekend and those who post during the week will not be on equal footing with those who post on the weekend! Thanks, Wyrmmaster

rcook ( posted at 12:00AM Tue, 24 October 2000

dragongirl, the number of views shown in the Art Gallery are not guaranteed unique. The ones listed in the Top 100 are guaranteed to count one person only once, so the counts may be different. And no, it has nothing to do with ratings, only views.

TBKoen ( posted at 12:00AM Tue, 24 October 2000

I haven't red all the enhancements above, but the comments below my picture are dissapearing. I hope this wasn't one of the new enhancements. if it is, PLEEEAASSE change it back the way it was.

ronmolina ( posted at 12:00AM Tue, 24 October 2000

I noticed also when I make comments related to others works they disappear like TBKoen said.

Ironbear ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 01 November 2000

I agree with Wyrmmaster on the Top 100, the seven days and 100 images format seems to give a better sampling and viewing period for images. Top 50 might still work, at the 7 day period, but Top 100 has a better ring to it soundwise...

Ironbear ( posted at 12:00AM Sat, 04 November 2000

Ah... this one is more a question than an opinion: What if anything is happening on re-instituting the monthly "Featured Artist" that dissapeared when the site changed. A lot of people liked that feature.

Ironbear ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 08 November 2000

Congrats and Kudos on reinstituting the "Featured Artist" section. Having that go away was a loss to the site and I'm glad to see it back. Nice work...
