Description

One of my hikes in New Hampshire, was on the Pemi trail, which mostly followed the Pemigewasset River. One of the many water features along the river is called The Basin. The Basin is a 40 feet (12 meter) wide and 20 feet (6 meter) deep pothole (a term I took from one of the official websites) has been carved out of the granite base over about 13,000 years since the glaciers receded from this area. As you can see, the water pours down in the upper right and can go straight through on the right but in heavy rains and snow melting, the water swirls around and leaves on the lower left. This swirling action has created The Basin. It will zoom. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

The granite rock is worn very smooth but the stone was dry that day and not slippery! Also good hiking boots also helped!
