This could have been the 2nd page of the Vol. 1 of Silvia's adventures (page 4 of a comic album ranging from P. 3 to 48), but the project was refused by the comic publishers in March. So I am redrawing all the pages, either from scratch or from carefully modified older panels (here 5 out of the 8 panels will be kept in the new page 5), and I hope to present you later some pages of the redrawn project. Apparently this page summarized many reasons for which the comics was rejected. As page 13 posted earlier (link below), it was composed of 3 strips (panel lines), while now at least 4 is the unwritten rule. While my drawings met a true success with advertisers, town administrations and generalist publishers, they were considered of unsufficient quality for comics because of a lot of small errors in poses, anatomy, hair drawing, cloth folds, and even in perspective (such as proportions of people in the complex panel 1). The very realistic and detailed Photoshop color seemed not to match correctly with the classic so-called "clear line" of inking (done in vector mode in Manga Studio 3EX): some pros said me that a more cartoonist color would be much quicker to paint and would have given more convincing results.
The 6 first panels here show Silvia's adoption : the 2-year old girl is conducted in Paris by Thiam, a Vietnamese Catholic sister in charge of an orphanage near My-Tho, a town near the Mekong delta, after the death of her biological parents. Her adoptive parents, a couple of farmers from South-West France, Sandrine and Rodrigo Lopez, take her to their farm. In the last three panels, Silvia, 4 years later, is disputed at school by a young racist pupil who does not accept her ethnic differences. Here I have done an attempt to translate the balloons.
Thiam: You are Mr and Mrs Lopez, are you?
Sandrine: Yes! Good morning, Thiam! She is so cute!
Thiam: I said her that you will give her the name of Silvia... Its a nice first name!
Sandrine: Yes... The origin of this name is forest. We are living near a pine forest.
Rodrigo: Ah... Good morning Manuel... So, you are calling for the news? OK... She is here since yesterday evening. This night, she wept a little... But this morning, she is fascinated by the animals. And you... already at work?
Manuel: She comes from Vietnam?
Rodrigo (on phone): Yes Manuel. I have already said you. She is marvelous and very kind... The rest, for us, no matter!
Rodrigo: Come here for dinner!
Phil: Silvia, you weren't beautiful. But with your glasses, you look like an ugly fly!
Valentin: What is the problem with my girlfriend?
Phil: She is a lemon, and that's all! Do play with French ones, at least!
Valentin: Go away, stupid guy!

Interesting! Is there any sex in your story, or is it just life and romance. Romance is also very good. Sex is fine, but it's best when it ends in love and romance. DPH
