Description
Today something different than Corona, I would be really happy if you could tell me what you think about it. For me, as an animal lover, there are many things that are in a mess.
Thanks for reading, I wish you all a reasonably nice weekend and stay healthy.
What is the general situation with respect for the species "animal" among us humans?
Although we humans could share our planet earth with the animals and live together in peace and mutual respect, we simply put on the crown of creation and often ruthlessly ignore animal welfare for our purposes, for our enjoyment, for our appearance and for our leisure activities:
So, depending on our culture and personal attitude, we decide whether to cuddle or fry and then call the whole thing pets or farm animals.
We buy cheap animals from often cruel breeding in internet forums and then often do not even keep our beloved pets in a species-appropriate way.
We kill tens of thousands of insects with pesticides, take away the habitat of animals for our purposes, intervene in the natural balance of the forest by hunting, mercilessly fish the seas empty and go to the zoo or circus for fun with our children or grandchildren or watch funny animal films with trained animals without reflecting on the animal welfare with the adolescents.
We sleep in cuddly duvets of live plucked geese, adorn ourselves with crocodile leather bags and wear clothes made of leather, fur and wool. And all this in a world where there are now animal-friendly alternatives for everything.
We pay money for bullfights or horse races, where animals are treated anything but species-appropriate. Just for our pleasure.
We unreflectively enjoy the countless and ever-increasing range of cosmetics and care products on offer, without considering the cruel animal experiments behind them.
We often indulge in our enjoyment of meat several times a day, expect a huge selection of meat and dairy products and at the same time demand the best quality and low prices. We have lost respect for the individual creature "animal" with all its feelings, needs and capacity for suffering.
Our ever-increasing, unreflected greed has long since become incompatible with animal welfare. The dairy and meat industry is happy to serve us. For economic reasons, many animals are kept in a confined space, 98% of them are kept in agony, fattened in turbo gear and slaughtered in piecework with many false anaesthetics in huge slaughterhouses by cheap labourers.
The dairy cows live with giant udders and the poultry with giant breasts, because turkey breast is the most demanded meat. Their calves are usually taken from their mothers immediately after birth so that they do not drink "our" milk. Millions of male chicks are shredded, pigs are castrated and docked without anaesthetic, cows are dehorned. But we consumers turn a blind eye to all these truths. We do not want to know the truth at all, because they make us feel guilty and may even take us out of our comfort zone. So we don't even look at them or suppress unpleasant images. This human ability is called cognitive dissonance.
I would like to see more respect for animals. Every one of us can make a contribution, no matter how small. Let's just pick one out of the multitude of disrespect mentioned above and get started! It feels incredibly good and makes the common life of humans and animals on earth better and more bearable for the animals.
Quote: "Cruelty to animals cannot exist with true education or true scholarship. It is one of the most characteristic vices of a lowly and ignoble people." (Alexander von Humboldt)
PS. I will try to write some comments on your newest graphics tonight.

People are blind to those things they do not wish to see. I can see everything eventually going down the pan as we starve ourselves to death through our greed.

We need to learn how to live with nature again, I think modern life has made us forget how we depend on nature to survive. But this attitude is not sustainable for very long...in the end nature always wins.

Great stuff ! But it's time to make a choice more humans or fewer animals you can't have both not enough resources or space.

This is a perfect tribute to our animal friends. Nice job!
Animals belong here more than we do. They never hurt for sport or leave destruction in their path. I have mixed feelings about zoo type places. Fine if it helps protect and re-establish an animal population but not fine if its because people just want to gawk.

I wonder if they had to walk a mile for that camel? Sorry. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw it! Marvelous image and stellar commentary! If only we could mend our selfish, greedy and ignorant ways! Wonderful statements today Ute!

Humanity is very disappointing, because we know better. Most people just care as long as they get what's theirs. Much of the damage we do to wildlife is unnecessary at best and outright heartless at worst. 🥺
