Description
I haven't written anything in quite a while. Here's a little story created as I created these images in DAZ. These were all part "homework" assignments from the DAZ class. As always, thanks for stopping by and I finally have some time to get back to the galleries for some browsing. A simple story to go with the images. Sort of a "what if" tale of characters.
That night, like many, he fell asleep in his living room chair near his friend. Nights were cool and breezy and with no heat in the house, a small fire at night could be warm and cozy and lull anyone to sleep. He dreamed that night, but not visions or prophecies, just some distant memories distorted through centuries of living. For a moment he saw her. His first and only true love. But those old feelings were soon muted as the memory of betrayal and disappointment overshadowed the love. It did not destroy the love but the ability to trust may be gone forever. It did not really matter anymore. The chances of seeing her again were slim and none. There was a millennium and a half that separated them now, not just distance. Truth be told he could not say if distance was a factor either. She could be well dead or be living next door but look entirely different.
Morning came and he woke before his friend, so he quietly made his way to the kitchen and brewed some coffee. He thought about when this drink was first introduced and the change it brought. He sometimes wondered how he got through a thousand years without it.
He came back to his chair and sat for a moment staring at his friend. This one was still young and one of only a few left in the world. His kind had to hide from the modern world lest they go completely extinct. Back in the day there were more, but not many more. Dragonkind was very misunderstood, and they were hunted like monsters, though they were no more a monster than the orca or the wolf. But such are the ways of so many ordinary humans. The man was glad that attitudes have changed over time and some people once again saw the full need and value of ecosystems and balance in nature. In that moment, the young dragon stirred and woke with a yawn. The man smiled as he watched the dragon’s graceful neck unwind and stretch, its mouth opening wide as it let out a quiet hissing yawn of satisfaction.
He thought about his current situation as he sipped his brew. He now lived in the “new world” and had “retired” to the land of palms and gators as so many humans do in this country. Though he looked aged, he was as fit now as he was in his late youth. He obtained a small bungalow on a remote key with an exceedingly small population of people. He preferred to stay off the grid, as the modern term went, and keep to himself. He could have lived like a king or a celebrity in this age, with just a few tricks and sleight of hand, but attention was not good for his kind in these times. There were a few others like him in the world and a few others who knew about them and thought that they were aberrations to be destroyed. So, rather than go for the attention, like one of his old cohorts was doing, he dressed and lived like the locals.
