your bird shots are always filled with so much care...you present them as if you knew them personally and wanted to show them to the world with the greatest concern for who they are and how they look. (Hard to describe how you do it, but you do.) The quail here seems to emerge from a series of hanging dreadlocks, those beautiful stalks that go well with its feathers. He’s partly hidden by them and the grasses, but he’s mostly in view, and your detail is very clear without changing the balance of the shot. A beautiful intimate capture, with all the care you put into all your work. And with gentle autumnal hues...

What a wonderful portrait of this little sweetie. So much beautiful detail! I was so surprised to see one of these come out from under the pyracantha in my back garden last year; I haven't seen any since then. My parents used to have whole flocks of them in their yard down at Lake Havasu, but that's the desert!

So many details of the feathers and such a sweet little quail. Excellent shot, Maria :) Some people eat their eggs here. I never tasted them.

Another cool avian capture, Maria, this one of the plump quail, with its disparate patterns, shown emerging from the safety of the hanging foliage to face whatever challenges that await it.
