I come from Chicago, where blues became 'electric', and where jazz flourished for decades, not to mention Gospel. So when Detroit suddenly exploded into the music scene, with Motown, Chicagoans and New Yorkers just stood there and gaped. It was a wholly unique style, where a whole slew of highly talented musicians suddenly seemed to come from Detroit, or ran TO Detroit to take part in the scene. This is an exuberant, joyful evocation of that era, with a huge warehouse as the performing space (maybe they're recording there, or maybe they're just playing for the joy of it), and debris on the ground, and those high girders...a huge shed converted into a performing hall. And the musicians are doing it all with joy. Your whites, here, are wonderful contrasts to all the dark hues and deep reds. And the lineup of musicians is in perfect sync with the lines of the ceiling. Beautifully composed, lots of rich urban detail (with real graffiti), wonderful broad whites in the bass, guitar and piano, and an overall feeling of a bunch of musicians getting together spontaneously, to make wonderful music. Terrific tribute---Motown would approve!
