That night, Boadicea stared at the moon, which shone brighter than most nights.
It was an omen, they said. But what did it harbinger? Victory for her people? Or death?
She thought of him, and a knife twisted in her heart. She cried out softly, her eyes brimming, but she quickly wiped the tears away.
This was not the time for showing weakness. Besides, numbers were on her side : 230,000 strong, compared to the paltry sum of 10,000 Roman soldiers. What bothered her was the choice of battlefield. Her maps indicated it was a tight space, which wasn't good for large numbers. But her people were thirsty for blood. To suggest that they go with a quarter, or even half, of their strength would invite the mutiny of the other half. So she had decided to go full force, and hoped to make a quick work of the enemy.
She gazed at the moon again, and wondered whether in a thousand years, history books would be kind in their telling of her life, her legacy.
Just a small background story. Lots of inconsistencies of course : Boudicca was reportedly big, and she was fearsome with a spear. She would probably scoff at katanas (which shouldn't be there in the first place) hehe. But she was real, so if you want to know about her last battle you can look up The Battle of Watling Street.
Maybe just consider this piece as the Hollywood version of things, you know how they screw most facts up :-D
Anyways, me still hopes you enjoys. Thanks all!

Boudicca was indeed said to be tall with amass of waist-length red hair... but still, I'll forgive the "hollywoodising" in this instance, as its such a lovely image.
Its one of those real tuning points in history... the Romans were about to give up and abandon Britain, so had that last battle gone differently, Western Europe would be a very different place.
