Description
While up in the Glacier Point area of Yosemite National Park we saw this old, probably dead Juniper tree. With all the beauty in the canyon below, this caught my eye. I seem to be drawn to gnarly, leave less, old trees. I am only guessing that it is a Juniper so please correct me if I am wrong. Another scanned photo from the 1990s. It will zoom.
Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments.
They are very much appreciated.
Dana

Really old, but always alive :) Mountains in the bg give impression of a paint, it's cool! Have a good day!

I remember being up there and seeing an animal I had never seen before! It was called a Marmot. I remember it being like a large squirrel on steroids!

It looks dead so hard to identify without foliage but to me the bark looks more like a pine. Interesting image - great capture Dana!!!

This is gorgeous, Dana! I just love those old, gnarly trees. They have so much character - the stories they could tell if they could talk...

Impressive tree looks like It had a bit of a rough time, I think I'd go for a Pine too.

Very nice shot of this gnarly juniper, Dana. Wonder how much it "saw" during its lifetime and for how many years.

I think you are right. Looks like the poor thing has passed on. But what a view it had.

When I first saw this image, one thing which struck me was its symmetry. The branches were bent over almost in equal measure on the left and right, giving the impression of a pair of wings.
Maybe it's my Asian cultural background, but for me the sight of a dead or withered tree can serve as a reminder of the impermanence of all conditioned phenomena. Perchance you were entertaining similar thoughts in your attraction to old, barren trees? :)
