The Black-necked Grebe, Podiceps nigricollis, a member of the grebe family of water birds, is known in North America as the Eared Grebe : see the nice picture posted by Pat Goltz this morning:

beautiful bird, but the red eye makes me feel uncomfortable. Looks a little evil to me! Your capture is fantastic as always: light, DOF, details, all is superb.

Wow, great shot. Beautiful capture of ripple reflections. Colors of light on water are a superb compliment to the plumage. This is one to hang in a gallery.
