I've been interested in HD images, but have not, to my knowledge, seen one. This is an outstanding scene.

Superb, my friend. From the thumbnail, I thought that it was another rendered advert for the new VUE 7 Infinite program. It does great skyscapes, reflection and HDRI. Since this is real, it is even more to be praised, since your choices were limited by the time and lighting, not by your imagination, graphics card and compositional skills.. Warm regards, John.

HDR is an acronym for "high dynamic range" and consists of taking multiple exposures of the same scene at different settings to capture the full dynamic range and then "tone mapping" them together. This allows detail in both the shadows and highlights to be represented, and can give an image much more like the human eye sees (with its very good dynamic range). It can also be exaggerated to create graphic effects, but that is not what this particular image is about.
