Evelyn had been living with me for just over two weeks, she had rapidly established herself as a much liked visitor, everyone seemed to love this strange little girl. Tony in particular adored her, he asked everyday how she was and when she was going to go and see him next, he wasn't alone either, Fabi might have finally met his match in talking terms.
Every morning she would go to Fabi's shop and get him to make her a coffee she had dreamed up, marshmallows stuffed inside the cup with a rich mocha poured in, it sounds gross because it is! The coffee would melt and mix with the marshmallows creating a thick sugary gravy, but she loved it, Fabi even bought jumbo marshmallows just to make her this strange creation. Francois topped her cup up when she went near the shop, even that razor tongued Parisian couldn't resist those green eyes and that sweet smile, though Evelyn just thought he was strange, but they chatted most mornings nevertheless.
Wednesday is market day and Evelyn had grown to like market day, all the unusual shops, different buskers and Shanky sat in the market, quietly sitting there selling his prints. Market day was the only time during the week that she would be awake before me, she would rise from that sofa supercharged. Coffee for me would be ready, she even made me some toast, I know it's only burning bread but small things! when I came down the stairs or woke on the sofa she would grab hold of me and hug me as hard as she could, a few times I'm sure I heard my ribs pop! Her mouth would accelerate as she spoke in a total craze about everything and anything she was going to do, stopping periodically to laugh or catch her breath. You couldn't help but be taken in by her excitement, the other reason she liked market day was she had agreed with Tony to go and meet him every Wednesday afternoon. Though I never knew what it was they discussed as they wandered round that garden on the roof, she had a strange effect on him? He was calmer than normal? but focused too? like she was helping him release something that had been bothering him?
