Batman hurried Julia to the Batcycle. He wanted to be gone before there was too much commotion. Gordon was on his way and would take care of the domestic side and his security was already leaving with Lilith.
As they approached the bike he removed his cape. At the bike, he lifted the seat, stowed his cape and pulled out a helmet and offered it to Julia. “The cape gets in the way with two people. You ever ride before?” He said.
“Well, my name is Julia Reckert.”
“Reckert. Hmm Reckert, as in Bradley Reckert?”
“Yup. He's my brother.”
“Yeah, that's my bro. He's the hero of the family.” The sarcasm was not hidden. “I love him, but advances in science don't have the glamor of sports. We rode a lot when we were kids.”
“Good. I'm in hurry too. And...”
She cut him off, “I know, lean with the bike.”
“Good. Let's go.” And they saddled up.
As Julia and Batman raced to the Batcave, Batman used the time to try to get more information from his passenger. The helmet she wore had a comm in it, so he could talk to her easily.
“Julia, I need to know more about the Joker. The day I was captured he was still locked up at Arkham Asylum. How did he get out and what was he doing with Dr. Cyber.”
“Honestly Batman, I don't know. I mean, I don't know where he was or came from. I don't really follow those things”
“What was he doing at Cyber's lab.” He continued.
“Well.” She paused. “It kinda goes like this. The doctor needed a powerful power supply to activate and run the transfer device. I mean a lot of power. That kind of power would be noticed by Bruce Wayne or whoever Dr. Cyber answered to. The doctor was aware of experiments in fusion by a certain group of people, whom she didn't reveal to me. They were experimenting with hybrid methods of muon, the Farnsworth/Hirsch fusor and pyroelectric fusion. They were small devices that connected to a specially constructed module that could regulate and transfer the energy to Cyber's transfer device. But they are not practical. They only provide enough energy for an hour at the most before crapping out. Sort of like non renewable batteries. Does this mean anything to you?”
“Yes. All of the fusion methods you mention do not require extreme temperatures and are reproducible in a lab. But the pyroelectric fusion requires more energy than it produces and the muon is short lived. So somehow this “group”, as you call them, found a way to use the electrostatic containment from the Farnsworth/Hirsch fusor to compensate and bridge the two.”
Julia was silent for a moment in shock. She never really met anyone, other than Dr. Cyber, who knew such things. “Umm...yeah, er, I mean yes. I don't know the details, because that's not really my field, but that’s it in a nutshell.”
“So...What's the Joker to do with this.”
“Oh, yeah. Well. Money did not seem to be a concern so Dr. Cyber ordered them to make as many as they could and to keep sending them. We went through ten before being cut off. It seemed the supplier suddenly had a new idea. They didn't ask for more money, but they wanted a favor and apparently that was getting the Joker out of prison, or wherever he was. I wasn't filled in on this. Cyber told me there'd been a hang up with the supplier and she was negotiating a new deal. She needed to continue her experiments and was provided with two. Those were used on Hespira and the two other poor victims.” These last words sort of trailed off as she went silent.
“Please Julia, I need you to tell me all you can.”

She sniffed a couple times, but couldn't wipe the tears away because of the helmet. “Batman, what have I done. I can't believe I was so callous. I was so caught up in her advancements and what it could do for me. I saw what was happening, but I just shut off my emotions and morals.” “Believe me, I can relate.” Batman replied. “Take strength that you are trying to fix things and that any good from her research might be able to be passed on in the near future by you, working at Wayne Enterprises.” “Thanks, Batman. I'm trying to get through this, but poor Hespira. The other two, I am sad for, but one was a drunken homeless man and the other a sick street prostitute, I know their lives shouldn't have any less value, but Hespira is an Amazon and has a family of sorts that think she's dead. And now her mind is in the prostitute's cyborg altered body. And the worst part is that there is a chance that her body will fail in time or her mind will deteriorate. The prostitute was in bad shape in mind and body. Not like Wonder Woman.” “One thing at a time.” He answered. “What else on the Joker.” “I guess the Joker must have known our energy supplier, so it seems he must have negotiated a deal to get out and he would bring another fusion battery, as we ended up calling them. The other part of the deal, to get Joker's help, was to capture you. Cyber already laid out a plan to get Wonder Woman, but she had to alter things to get you too. She knew you were friends with Wayne and since Wonder Woman was already taking the bait, meaning the discovery of Hespira's real body in a landfill, it didn't take much to set up a staged break in at Wayne Tech. The two men that were caught and confessed were a diversion. They were held by Cyber's personal security as part of Wayne Security's arrangement with the Gotham Police. I figured they were paid off and let go. But now I'm guessing they're gone too. How many bodies Batman?” She was sniffing again. “Keep going Julia.” “Well it was going well until Robin showed up. As Lavinia Bryce, the doctor had thrown off the police pretty well, but Commissioner Gordon came around and Robin showed up asking questions. I guess that's no surprise since you were missing. I asked the doctor why we needed you and told her I thought that it was a bad idea, but she said we didn't have a choice. It turns out for me it was a good idea. And honestly I was shocked when the Joker showed up, but I just kept to myself. He was really creepy and such a weirdo. It's one thing to hear about him and another to actually meet him.” “Tell me about it.” Batman quipped. “That's all I know. I have no idea how she got him out of jail, I just know he was there. As it turns out, he is really smart and understood how to operate the machine when Cyber showed him. Stealth was capable of assisting, but in truth, this is such new technology that having human intuition was more valuable than the logic of a mech. Though that's changing everyday in Stealth.” “What do you mean.” “Cyber developed a special fluid that helps Stealth realize real emotions. I think it's dangerous and it's certainly uncharted territory. They're based on human emotions, but she's not human and we have no idea what will come of this. I mean the doctor is so confident that as Wonder Woman she can command anyone and anything, but, well, I don't know. It's all crazy and way out of control now.” “Thanks Julia, that helps a lot, but were almost there.” They were on Wayne acreage now and approaching the Batcave from the secret roadway. “Where are we anyway. Isn't Wayne mansion near here? That's it!” She exclaimed. “You're not just friends with Bruce Wayne, you work for him!” “Something like that. I'm going to let you in on a secret, because I desperately need your help to get Diana, Wonder Woman, back. Will you need one of those fusion batteries at the hidden lab to get the transfer machine to work?” “No, there's some generator there. I don't know where it gets it's power, I think it might be hydroelectric. I mean, well, here's the bad news.” “What.” His voice lowered and did not sound comforting. “I only sort of know where the hidden lab is.” “What!” “Well I was always taken there in an SUV with blackened windows and I was never allowed to wander off the property. It was wooded and I'm sure I heard a large waterfall nearby. And it took about two hours to get from there to Wayne Tech. I'm nearly positive we drove southwest.” Batman gave a heavy sigh. “Okay. That might be enough for me to at least get a general location and then do a search.” “I'm sorry.” “It's okay, we'll make it work. Here we are.” As he said this they were moving full speed towards a rock wall. “Oh my God! What are you doing!” And, of course, at the last moment two doors quickly split open allowing them to pass into the large rock hill. “Holy crap Batman, what the Hell!” Julia exclaimed. Bruce just smiled to himself. “There'll be just one more surprise for you when we stop.” “The secret?” “Yes.” “Hunh, I can hardly wait.” Julia said, recovering from the shock of passing through a wall unscathed. Here's a mid-week information post. Thanks for stopping by and more for the weekend. Batman owned by DC Comics. Original storyline by me.

Great reading - you've put together a fantastic tale, Art! It's very obvious you've put a lot of thought into this adventure! And that's a great illustration to top it off! Kudos, my friend!
