The Joker had arrived at the Cyber Tech Division and had been let in through the back doors and secret corridors to Cyber's lab. In the 30 months Dr. Cyber had been with Wayne Tech as Dr. Bryce, she had secured several new patents and advanced bio/cybernetic research. She was given a lot of power and money for these accomplishments and the only oversight was being done by Lucius Fox's project manager that he had hired for this division. As it turns out, this manager was already a henchman of Dr. Cyber. It is no coincidence that this person had worked for Lucius Fox, under this guise, in the past with positive results. It made the hiring that much easier.
As the money came in, Dr. Cyber began setting up a new lab with secure access that even Bruce Wayne did not know about. It was constructed within an empty space that was below the main research labs. Below that further, a temperature controlled room of large size was established and filled with computer banks to act as “storage” for the research. These rooms were mostly off the grid of the Cyber Division and had their own power supplies and electrical grids. The only thing connecting them to the main grid was electricity for basic lights and non essential services, such as restrooms. Security was self contained and Wayne Tech's main security surveillance did not have access. Had Bruce and Lucius been more active in Dr. Bryce's work and requests, then this would not have happened. Times had become more secure and relaxed and they had full trust in the new manager.
A deep and thorough fake profile had been made for this person and therefore had passed the company's usual background checks. In this same guise, the so called project manager had full oversight powers and did not have to answer to Fox or Wayne on a regular basis. Bruce sometimes did his own checks, but he did not in this case, trusting Fox on this one. Dr. Cyber had made a few gambles when she applied to Wayne Enterprises as Dr. Bryce, but they were now paying off.
Joker entered the lab carrying the metal briefcase he had gotten from the pawn shop. He used two hands to carry it and lifted it onto a desk with a thud.
“Careful Joker.” Cyber said. “Open it and let's see.” The lab was dimly lit and cast a lot of shadows. Cyber's face was hard to see and therefore hard to read in this lighting.
“Yes indeed my dear.” He opened the case, which was lined with lead, thus the weight. The device inside exuded radiation and had to be contained. More from detectors than because of harm to others. Only long term exposure would have any effects. Inside was a small nuclear power supply. Apparently a miniscule version of a nuclear reactor being developed by the Japanese. It took Joker a lot of favors to call in to obtain this. “There you are. A one time use, micro nuclear reactor. This will generate enough energy to power three Gothams for two minutes. Now where's my payment.”
Cyber stared at the device and the cybernetic muscles formed a smile on her face. She stepped closer and into the light. “Oh my.” Joker said. “That is quite the new face for you. I see you're going for the mannequin look, Hoo Hoo.”
“Shut up clown!” Cyber exclaimed. He was referring to the exposed seams on Cyber's face that revealed the electronics that lurked below. “I'll show you your pay.” She walked towards the other side of the lab. “Over here.”
She stood before another cryo tube like the one Diana was in. Joker stepped up and his face lit up with joy. He danced and gesticulated wildly. “Oh glorious day! He looks wonderful. Like a museum piece on display HOO! HOO!. You've done what no one else has done lady. Is he awake?”
“He should be under mild sedation. The tube releases a gas every four hours.” Cyber replied.
“Excellent! Well, I'd love to stay, but I'll be taking my payment and be on my way. Hmm. Now how do I carry him?" Joker wondered.

“Not so fast.” Cyber said. “Payment is for the power source and your assistance in the matter at hand.” Joker's face soured a bit. “Oh...Right.” Then it perked up again. “Fair enough! I think I'd like to see what you have in store for Blunder Woman anyway. So, what's the plan? Dr. Cyber took on a look of pride as she began to explain her accomplishments. “I've finally been able to successfully transfer the mind of an individual to another human brain.” “Indeed.” Joker looked skeptical, but was now very interested. Underneath the smile and psychopathic personality lurked a highly developed scientific mind. Chemistry and genetics had been his specialties. Cyber continued. “My initial research allowed me to create a fully functioning positronic brain that a human mind could be mapped onto. The results yielded my assistants, Tank, Arc Angel, Reaper and Ripper. Each one of those cyber mech's now has the mind of former henchmen of you, Bane and Lex Luthor.” “Really?! One of my former employees? I'm impressed, but where are these...Henchman?” “You will meet them later. But for now you can meet Stealth.” From out of nowhere a large figure suddenly appeared. A tall figure that looked like it was suited in special orange colored armor and had glowing blue lights all over it, including where the eyes should be. “Woah!!!” The Joker abruptly jumped back and had pulled something from in his coat, now hidden in his hand. “Don't worry. Stealth will not hurt you unless I command it or you threaten her.” “Her eh? It doesn't look too feminine.” Said Joker with a look of disdain on his face. “That's just how I like to think of Stealth. The reality is that it has no gender programmed into it. Stealth is my most recent creation. A fully functioning positronic brain that has been programmed with everything it needs to survive and everything I need in a personal bodyguard. There is no human mind mapped to this one. She is original and one of a kind.” The figure stood there just looking imposing. “So what's all the hubub. Why don't you put your mind onto this magnificent creation. Or just stay where you are? I mean you look....attractive.” His smile looked a little skewed as he said this. Cyber turned to the large mech. “Stealth, help Julia install the power source.” she said and without answering the large mech walked away and with hardly making a sound. “Well, that was my original plan. After my last mishap caused by Wonder Woman's interference, much of my body was damaged. With someone's help I survived and was able to continue work on cybernetic limbs and bodies while hidden away in Sweden. Eventually I had this body built and so created my face from my youth before being scarred by the molten metals in that monastery accident, also Wonder Woman's doing.” “You've got more lives than a cat! Heh Heh Hah!” Joker quipped. Cyber looked on without expression and continued. “I also developed an organic and synthetic tissue to cover the body. The synthetic created the overall look and the organic was made into a spray that coated the synthetic tissue and covered the seams and formed another layer of protection that also reacted like real skin. But it is unstable. Despite all my research the organic skin does not last more than forty eight hours before decaying and falling off.” “Well, my specialty includes genetics. If I could see your work....” Joker was saying, but Cyber cut him off. “Not a chance clown.” She said abruptly. “I no longer need that anyway. I have successfully transferred a human mind, three times into another human mind. Observe.” And she indicated a closed cell with a transparent door. Just beyond was a part human part cybernetic female looking in bad shape. “Oh my.” Joker said with a sour expression. “This is your idea of success?” “Meet Hespira of the Amazons.” Cyber pressed a button next to the cell. “Tell us of your experiences Hespira.” Rather than speak of her situation, the gruesome looking figure began a series of curses and promises of torture and death that she would bring down on Cyber if she ever got out of here. Cyber let go of the button, cutting off the damaged Cyborg's tirade. “What you see is a cyborg that has a human brain, partial nervous system and major organs still intact. This is the third successful human cyborg creation I've made from various homeless people or others who would not be missed by society. The blood and damage is from the decay of the organic synthesized tissue. Though not painful, it is a mess. I've been using it on myself, but I have to clean off every two days and reapply it when I have to be in the public eye. That is just not efficient enough.” “Hespira arrived here in a search of the bracers Wonder Woman now wears. I knew who she was, but not the reverse. I saw it as an opportunity to experiment on an actual Amazon and have had resounding success. The mind that now occupies a former prostitute is fully Hespira.” “Amazing!” Was all Joker could say. “While having a strong and nearly immortal cyborg body has it's advantages. A real flesh and blood, immortal super being has even more appeal. And perhaps in time, I will surgically alter Wonder Woman's face to my own.” Servos and electronics worked to form a smile on the normally emotionless face. “What about her god powers? Is she not the daughter of an Amazon and the myth Zeus?” “Yes. And since she's been here I've isolated what makes the Amazon tick apart from the rest of her godly brain waves and functions. I have a special plan and device that should help keep those powers in place until my mind fully assimilates into her brain. Once the transfer is done, the subject is able to function almost immediately.” “What happens to the mind of the recipient?” “The process is more an exchange than a transfer. For instance, the prostitute's mind went from that body and into the previous body that Hespira was in. A homeless man actually. Unfortunately the woman could not handle the situation and killed herself/himself.” “Indeed. So Wonder Woman's mind will end up in your cyborg body, while you inhabit her body.” “That is how it's suppose to work. And part of why I want you here. It takes two people to operate the machine and you have the brains to do it. Also, you have what it takes to do the final step.” “And that is?” Joker put on a big smile of expectation. “You will destroy my cyborg body when the transfer is complete.” “HOO! HOO! HOO! I knew where you were going with this! It's like Christmas and my birthday all in one. I get the Bat and I get to kill Wonder Woman. HAH! HAH!” Cyber's face was emotionless. “I thought you'd like that.” “And you trust that I wont fiddle with the controls and take you out too?” “No. That's why Stealth will be watching you and if your hands stray outside the keypad and dial you will be operating, she will kill you immediately and stop the transfer. You will be dead and I'll have to train someone to operate the controls and I will take care of Batman myself.” “Hmmmm. I think I like your first idea best.” Joker smiled. “Why not program your bodyguard for that?” “She has other functions in this operation.” Continued...

Great story... I wonder if the Joker will go through with, or will he be tempted to do something else...

Damn....... You should be writing for the big screen, Art! This is better than anything I've seen lately! Excellent artwork, too - what a package! On to the next chapter - can't wait to see how this all works out....

Time to get caught up again! All this talk of mind-swapping reminds me of an episode of Red Dwarf where Rimmer puts his mind in Lister's body. That didn't work out... I suspect this won't either!
