Description

Elsewhere that day Alfred had become worried when he had not heard from Batman or Bruce. Though it was common for him to be away and even not contact Alfred, this felt different.

Word had gotten back to him that the problem over at Wayne Tech had been minor and dealt with. Security notified that Batman and Wonder Woman had signed off and left. Alfred had not gotten any such confirmation from Bruce. Several calls had come in from news outlets looking for a statement from Bruce Wayne on the matter, but Alfred had no luck contacting him. Eventually Lucius Fox released a generic pre-recorded statement by Bruce, one of several that were kept on hand when Bruce was away as Batman. They even had a few videos on hand that they would update from time to time.

It was now early afternoon and with no word Alfred decided to call Jason. Bruce had convinced Jason to enroll back in school. He felt Jason could benefit from continued guidance and authority as well as the practicalities of general learning. He was a senior and was enrolled in a work study program as an intern for Bruce Wayne. This allowed a lot of flexibility for both crime fighters and kept most disciplinary actions off of Jason. The young man still had a rebellious tendency and sometimes had trouble controlling his anger, but he was smart and an excellent student of the Batman. Every bit as good as Master Grayson. As long as he controlled and channeled those emotions properly, they would not be his undoing.

Alfred was in the Batcave now and he contacted Jason. Listening to the scanners he knew Commissioner Gordon was on his way to Wayne Tech to speak with Dr. Bryce. Lavinnia Bryce was the one who informed security that there were no problems and that Batman and Wonder Woman had checked in and left.

Jason was at school in between classes when his phone rang. Despite school policy he never turned it off.

“What's up Alfred?”

“I have not been in contact with Master Wayne or his friend since last night.” Though the communications channels used were excessively secure, Alfred rarely put Wayne and Batman together in the same sentence when using telecommunications.

“How's that unusual Alfred?”

“The lead scientist at the facility that sent up an alert last night said she saw both Batman and Wonder Woman and that they signed off on the problems and left last night. I have received no updates from anyone.”

“And the statement from Noon News was one of Fox's archives?” Jason asked.

“Yes, but be careful of what you say. I notified Commissioner Gordon of what's turning in to a conundrum and he's heading over to the Cyber Tech facility now. Perhaps Robin will show up as a follow up investigator.” Alfred replied.

“Yeah. If she knows something, seeing Robin should ruffle her feathers a bit.” Punned Jason.

“Indeed.”

“Alright, I only had one class left today anyway. I'm on my way to WE TIP.”

“Excellent, Master Todd. Do stay in touch. I'll be at the monitoring station.”

“Will do.”
