“C'mon Mr J. whadda we do next.”
“I call the front as Blaine, they ask that he wave to the camera, I pull the string, Blaine gives the secret salute and you walk sick Ian out to your car.”
“Are you kiddin'!!! We wont get past the next door!!! Besides, they'd think I'd take him to the infirmary.”
“Well deary, that's going to be entirely up to you. If you truly want to get me out of here, you're going to help old sick Ian out of here yourself and not let anyone else handle him for fear of catching the bug too. This bug is too contagious to be let loose in the infirmary here, Hoo Hoo Hoo.”
“Aaagh. Alright. Let's get this over with.”
Joker took a moment to practice his Blaine voice and then called the front. Luckily the HD cameras had not been replaced yet after the strange malfunction the other day, so an older camera was trained on the monitor desk. Then Joker gave a convincing Blaine. “Blaine here. Seems Ian the temp has got this bug too. It must be really contagious. Dr. Quinzel has volunteered to escort him out and to a regular hospital. Apparently the Joker's got it too and she put him down to rest.”
A tinny voice came out of a console speaker. “Geez Blaine, this is too much. How are you holdin' up?”
“I've been better and I've been worse, but I'm okay.” Joker mimicked. It was perfect, that's just what Blaine would say. He often used that as one of his answers when ever someone asked him how he was.
The tinny voice said“Okay then, wave to the camera.” And Joker pulled the string. The tinny voice replied. “Got it, we'll notify Eric and you can let them out from your side.”
The spider mech went to work again and unlocked the electronic lock on the door. A moment passed and the door to the next block opened. Harleen stuck her head out first. “Hey Eric, seems the new guy is really sick, you better keep back.” Joker had removed the string and tape from Blaine by then.
“Right on Miss Quinzel, the front notified me.”
Joker came through and had a blanket around his upper body and head covering the guard cap he wore and concealing his face. He coughed dramatically, almost too dramatically. “Easy Ian. Careful with that cough, you don't wanna blow sumtin'. Harleen said. The Joker gave a mumbled response.
Harleen was terrified, but she was so intent on making this work, she had pushed her fear and insecurities aside. That is how she got through her competitions in the past. Her need to succeed outweighed her fear. She tossed of the lab coat, inadvertently taking the spider mech with it. The little bug hit the floor and broke skidding against a wall. At this point they didn't need it anyway.
Harleen whispered as they made their way through this block. “What about Daryl? He does everything by the book.”
Joker replied. “Keep up your part and the hypochondriac, Daryl will be no problem. Besides, I have a backup plan in that section.”
“Those other two guards are yours aren't they?!”
“Hah Hah, nothing escapes that steel trap of a mind of yours, does it!”
They came to the transfer cells and Daryl already had the doors open and was standing back in one of the open cells with his hand covering his mouth. “Just head on through Miss Quinzel, I aint getin' sick.” The two other guards just smiled. Joker kept his head down and covered. “Geez, I thought you looked pale comin' in man, but you look even worse now. Look at those hands!”
