Ripper was listening in to Arc Angel's and Stealth's conversation. He was not quite of same mind as Arc Angel, but not far off. He didn't completely trust the doctor and therefore her immediate attack dog Stealth, but he owed her and was willing to see all this through. He understood dissension could cause a break down in command and ultimate failure in a mission, but then again, he didn't have a choice. None of them did. Loyalty to the doctor was programmed in.
His lack of trust went way back to Bosnia in the early to mid nineties during the war and genocide. He was a young teenager and managed to escape with his life. But not before seeing his mother, father and sister slaughtered before his eyes. That was after his mother and sister were raped for two days. He had been hiding in a false room behind a closet in a very modest, but not destitute house. His father was paranoid having lived under rule by the USSR for so long.
Back then he wasn't Ripper, he was Radomir. He hid in fear while his family was tortured, but there was nothing he could have done for them. If he had come out, he would have been tortured right along with them. After two days, his family was shot in the backs of their heads and left for the wild dogs and other vermin. He sat by himself for another two days before hunger and finally lack of water drove him out.
The war ended just a few months later, but he was left to fend for himself on the streets. He was not alone in this. Small gangs formed in towns and urban areas of homeless that could not be helped or that fell through the cracks and that is when he met Reaper. He never knew his real name. He was introduced to him as Reaper. Apparently he got the name and reputation by killing many of the Croats and Serbs that tried to slaughter his people. Reaper was only a year older than Radomir, but he was fearless. Radomir immediately looked up to him and admired his courage. Neither boy was very religious and never really understood why those Christians hated the Muslims, but as he grew and his understanding of power and politics became more clear, he realized religion and faith was an excuse the power hungry used to justify their crimes. Granted, some religious zealots believed in their righteous and religious cause, but it still amounted to the desire for power and control over others.
Reaper helped to release the pent up rage in Radomir and the two formed their own gang who fought for the freedom of themselves. At first they lived the lives of Robin Hood, but as they grew, the allure and reward of money from organized crime became to much to resist. He got the nick name Ripper for the gloves he had made that ended in long sharp claws. The two boys were now young men and were learning how to shoot and fight from former soldiers of the war. Outcasts themselves, these soldiers came together from both sides. A soldier's duty is to his commander. With the lack of command, the soldier's duty was to himself and his fellow soldiers. Many of these men had no want or need of religion and so formed their own organizations for services that ranged from mercenary to trafficking drugs, weapons and/or humans. They did well and it wasn't long before their reputations as Ripper and Reaper made it to the ears of one called Bane.
Bane spoke beautifully and eloquently. They believed in his cause. He would do what Ra's al Ghul could not. And they fell for it. And for a while it worked. They were with him when he hijacked Gotham and broke the Bat's back, but when things started to fall apart, Bane disappeared and hasn't been seen since.

In the aftermath of the police and national guard recovering Gotham and Greater New York, he had lost an arm and a leg and Reaper, both his legs. No one knew who they really were. They were just unfortunate victims of Bane's megalomania, as were all the citizens of Gotham. They were healed and left to convalesce in county run assisted living. It was only a little better than living on the street. And that's where Dr. Bryce comes in. She just showed up one day in the common room where he and Reaper were watching TV. She approached them saying she was a doctor making great strides in ambulatory repair and recovery. She wanted to take them out for the day and show them her work. She had already recruited Tank and Angelo and made them what they are now. She took both he and Reaper from the facility for a day to introduce them to her “children” and reveal who and what she really was. Both men, right there, decided they did not want to go back. They were still too young to be done with their lives as they saw it. And this was a promise of virtual immortality. Anything was better than wasting away in a broken facility to be forgotten. Even now after the change, he still felt this way. He understood the desire of power now. He had it and wanted more. The better he could serve the doctor then the better off he would be. As long as he was useful, she would help him. All of them were due upgrades to their armor, weapons and cybernetic matrix and he looked forward to that. If they were going to pull off what she planned, they were going to need as much help as possible. Maybe someday as the doctor's skills improved, he could have a more human body again. Though he would never want a true human body ever again. In retrospect, if him and Reaper had not wanted to go along with the plan, Dr. Cyber probably would have killed them both and they couldn’t have done anything about it. He even wondered how many she may have visited and killed before finding him and Reaper. He asked once and she surprised him by answering. She said she had heard of the great Ripper and Reaper and had searched them out. He accepted that, because there was no way he could ever know the truth. He acknowledged Arc Angel now. “I heard Angelo. I'll keep my eyes open for Tweety Bird. I'm heading up to the lab now. Things are about to start and I'm needed in case things don't go as planned.” The digitized voice of Ripper, and in fact Reaper, still carried the accent of their former country, which seemed to give an even more sinister appearance to both mechs. Like monster, robot Draculas. “I hear you Ripper. There's a chance he could make it to the computer storage room, but I can't follow the way he would have gone. I'll head over there now to check then come to the main lab after.” “Acknowledged.” Replied Ripper. “Radomir?” The mechs sometimes used their real names when they thought Stealth or Cyber wasn't listening. “What.” “Do you trust Cyber?” “Do we have a choice?” “Not yet.” “Not yet?” Radomir was curious as to what Angelo meant. “Maybe someday we'll figure out how to rewrite our programming before an upgrade and re-boot.” Angelo said. “Well until that someday comes, do we have a choice?” Radomir repeated. “No.” “Then it seems trust doesn't matter.” “Indeed. Keep your comm open Ripper so I can stay in the loop.” “Acknowledged. See you after the transfer. Ripper over.” “Arc Angel over.” Thanks for stopping by. See you later In the week.

Now this is even more intruiging... you transfer a person's conciousness to a positronic brain yet, as it is in essence just an extremely advanced machine, you can instill programming that dictates certain behaviours like loyalty. Fascinating... Have you read the Dune prequels where it talks about the Machine War and the rise of the cymeks? Your machines remind me of them. Except the cymek brain remained organic and was encased in a "jar" that could be easilly removed from each machine body and inserted into another. This meant that each cymek had a selection of forms and it would chose the body most suitable for whatever was needed. Great stuff.

I don't know how this could possibly get any better, but I'm sure it will - you really should be writing for the movies, Art! This is fantastic - and of course your artwork is the cherry on top... I think Alex may be on to something...
