Description

Took a cube and totally wonked it up* with topmod. *Wonking up is a particular Hoosier term for something tilted, akilter and otherwise made to be wonky, as in "Your sister's new braces really wonked up her face". That took about an hour and produced the two shells. You have your cube, then several applications of cubic penta remeshing, truncating, removing edges, truncating again, then several rounds of Doo Sabin remeshing to smooth it. Then punch out a thin rind shell (metal), remembering carefully because you have to repeat the same selection again to make the lenses (glass). Post-wonk, it seemed a good idea to render in Bryce at 2400x3200 with HDRI lighting. Hmm, that was last Sunday, and it's almost Friday. Anti-aliasing is about 65% now, and with luck will finish sometime tomorrow before I go away for a weekend. So, you might see the whole thing tomorrow or ... next week! Makes a nice abstract in the meantime. The image is an actual 1024x1024 pixel selection from the top where AA is complete. Enjoy!

Lots of steps envolved, with a very beautiful result. I hardly think it's wonked at all.

You sure have patience. Your CPU needs a vacation. Beautiful render so far.

Wonky can be good! Should be worth it to see the end result. That's a hell of a long render, though. Not sure I'd have the patience for something like that yet, not without a decent second computer/laptop to use while my CPU is busy chewing on pixels.

Nice nice work. The lighting, surface work and "wonking" are all quite impressive.
