Found this large black beetle on one of my hikes and Google tells me it is a Calosoma macrum. Took some photos and let her go on her way. About two inches (5 cm) long and she moved very fast on the ground and also in the grass. I chose this POV because of the strong pincers around her mouth although she did not try and bite me. She also had wings which she flexed a couple of times but did not try to fly away either. We will be meeting friends at Ossipee Lake for a few days and I will be catching up when I return. Do zoom.
Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments.
They are very much appreciated.

My, a pinch from those jaws must be painful and bloody! A frightening creature to have coming against you. The fact it didn't bite may be due to confidence in its own size and strength. Nice photo. I don't feel like walking bare foot in the grass after seeing this! Keep up the good work! :-)

Oh my goodness, you are braver than I am, Dana. But what a great shot you got, very impressive in zoom view.

Super shot of this beauty, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite so large in person!

Oh, you are SO much braver than I am, Dana! One look at the pinchers and I would be like uh, no!!! Oh, Ossipee Lake! We go camping in Center Ossipee. We went the first two weeks in June and will be going again the first two weeks of September. Camp right on the pond, called Little Dan Hole, which is spring-fed and crystal clear and we love listening to the loons calling day and night, and hearing the owls calling to each other. Ossipee is just a beautiful area!!! Have a good time!!!

Beautiful shot of this beetle Dana. How did you know it a 'she'? BTW as to your comment on the Donier, I had no clue it existed either. And as to the space shuttle and the SR-71 in the museum, I will post them later!

I saw recently a black beetle saved by a child against other children. Animal ended in a part of a little garden to be in security. have a good day!

Oh, she's a big girl. I am convinced that insects like higher forms of animals can tell when there is danger and when it is safe. Her actions tell me she had nothing to fear from you. This is a really cool close up and your instinct about the POV was spot one.
