This is an image of the FTL ship Athena, as she leaves Mars station and passes through the thin atmosphere headed for her rendezvous with fate.
Modeled in Hexagon, and rendered in Carrara 7, with comp and post in PS/CS2.
I don't do much modeling and was hesitant to even try to do a space ship. I wanted something retro with a rounded/organic design, and I wanted to try and be original. Well after stepping back and taking a good look - I can see elements of design from Star Trek, Star Wars, Andromeda, DC3 and the SR71 Blackbird. So much for originality.
This is the ship that ties into my story of my Melaquoid character - please see previous gallery posts for details.
Thanks to all for taking a look, and let me know what you think.
Have a great weekend.

Very cool model. Looks like something out of a Jules Vern story

Beautiful ship, I really like the materials use. I think it's nearly impossible to do anything that doesn't have a link to a ship that's already been done some time.

I wouldn't be too concerned with similarities with other Sci-Fi space ship designs; I doubt that there is much out there that hasn't been tried or attempted on some level. I think this is quite original, the organic and sleek design is a very nice changeup from the panel and rough edge design seen in many films and TV shows. Some additional viewing ports might be cool, but then if the ship is faster than light, perhaps instrumentation could compensate for creating weak structure areas that would provide a physical view.

That ship resembles a scaled down version of the Whitestar from Babylon 5.

Great modeling, I love the look and while it might resemble this or that, in the end, you did it. Great color scheme!
