Lilja reasoned with the constable as Sonja and Pannikin brought the steam carriage to the front of the restaurant. "These two are mine and were asked to remain here while I dined with a colleague across the way."
"Well and good, but they've drawn a crowd and are causing a commotion," the bobby replied. "I'm thinking there ought to be some sort of violation to register here."
"Oi! Back away from me pals, yeh screw!" Pannikin shouted unhelpfully from her perch next to Sonja in the steam carriage.
"Ehm! Ehm! Pay teh wee one no mind, constable! We'll just move along wit' 'er ladyship an' be nae more trouble fer yeh!" Fat Bob ventured.
"Honestly, sir, what harm has actually occurred? Consider that you will have the gratitude of Lilja Darkstar if you but permit us to depart with no further trouble." As the crowd heard the name "Darkstar" there was some muttering.
"Darkstar?" Asked the young constable. "Like all them manufactories and inventions and the like?"
"Yes, my good sir. I am the owner of that enterprise as the named heir." Lilja replied.
The young constable sighed. "That'd be a lot of trouble for me would you want to cause such. Still..."
"My ladyship ain't a troublin' kind o' personage, constable!" Fat Bob interjected hopefully. "She respecks law 'n' order 'n' fine, young fellahs such as yerself!"
"Ah. You're all more trouble than it's worth to report you for disturbing the peace. Get on with you and don't let me catch you loitering here again!" The constable clearly wanted nothing to do with the likely entanglements that would follow for citing the now very wealthy young woman and her associates.

They don't light it better in the movies! I won't say you worked for Speilberg, he never lit a scene worth bragging about. But, you probably worked for Carol Reed. This makes me think of The Third Man! Superb.

Phew, I'm glad the Darkstar name was able to get the clanks out of potential trouble with the coppers! Poor Fat Bob never meant to disturb the peace, I'm sure! Great lighting and atmosphere, too!
Heh. Yes, the moneyed class has a loud voice when speaking to the minions of the law even in my steampunk Mollyverse of New Babbage. Some things remain unchanged no matter when or where they occur.
Thanks so much for the comment on the lighting and atmosphere. I struggle with night time scenes and lighting them in a realistic way that still allows good visibility of characters.
