Continuing to just mess around to see what I can come up with. This is the Michelle character from Daz Studio with the Tara outfit and Tara hair. The background is from the Mick 2 Gothic Pack. She is lit from camera right and from above and behind her plus the light from the candles. Processed in Photoshop from canvases for each light source and a glossy canvas added on top, then painted over using a mixer brush.

Great job with a very advanced technique. Many would not know what you were referring to and just think it was ordinary post work. Haven't done much with canvases in Studio but have used this technique with ZBrush and Modo. Did the mixer brush produce the atmosphere or was that done at render time. You have a wonderful soft light feel to this and everything comes together so well.
The atmosphere is actually rendered. It's just a white primitive plane with a stock image of smoke as the cutout mask. There are actually 3 of these, one in front of the model, one behind her and behind the candles and they are ever so lightly emissive.

Superbly atmospheric; the golden lighting really gives it something extra
