Description

"You Can't Do That" is one of my favorite early Beatles' songs. It was recorded at the height of Beatlemania and was meant to be in the concert scene of the movie, "A Hard Day's Night." But, for what ever reason, it ended up on the cutting room's floor. I have a copy of the original scene on DVD. I was going to post that here, but was afraid that Rendo would delete it from the post. However, I did find a really good live concert version of the song on YouTube. So, that is what is shown below. It's a gritty song with lots of 7th chords and was written and recorded in the key of "G" (for all you music buffs). This song is also one of the songs recorded with George Harrison playing his Rickenbacker 12-string (that he made famous overnight!). After George first played this guitar on the Ed Sullivan Show, the sales (and the price) of this model skyrocketed. Thanks for the memory of a great tune. i remember the era well. And yes, the 12 String sprung into many a aspiring musician's hand. For those that indulge in guitar picking, try some open chord tuning on a 12-String. It sounds like heaven. Try Major and Minor for a real thrill.
