This was my winning entry to this years Halloween Photography Contest. Many thanks to all those that voted for the image.
We have all had an awful year with the Covid 19 virus and many good lives have been lost, huge numbers are very ill or will become unwell. I send my sympathy and my thoughts to all those families who have been affected. As artists I believe we have a job not to shy away from hard subjects and to record the times we live in. I also wanted to cast back into past times with this photograph.
Happy Halloween to all and Stay Safe.
I took the photograph in my front room, the whole scene was made and staged. Nothing is added afterwards but I have postworked the photograph to give it a more vintage and painterly look. Model is the wonderful Kay, many thanks to her.
Handmade Steampunk Costume - an old piece of velvet with rooster feathers glued on to make the feathered cape. Steampunk cogs and feathers added along with a banding on the hat. The Latex Crow mask was purchased but then feathers were added around the goggles and the ventilator parts I made from watering can roses painted with metallic paint, then added to the mask.
The concoction bottles were created with old containers I have saved over the years, seeds and plants from my garden, food colouring and water for liquids and twine and tea aged homemade labels attached for detailing.
Took 4 days in total to create.
