Commemorating the brave female pilots of The 558th Bomber regiment, (known later as the 46th "Taman" Guards Night Bomber Aviation Regiment) who during World War II, bravely flew obsolete biplanes into hostile German territory. This was mainly done during night time, causing havoc among the German soldiers. Before reaching their targets, the pilot turned off the engine and glided the last distance. because of the whistling sound made from the steel wires in the wings, the Germans gave them the nick name "The Night Witches".
Here the girls are back from another sortie. They're being greeted by their fellow comrades back at the base. These women flew throughout WWII. Made approximately 23 672 sorties in all. Many of these pilots were given the highest awards possible, "Hero of The Soviet Union".
For this image, I've used a freebie from sharecg , the Polikarpov PO-2 airplane with authentic markings as well. Created by Pedro Caparros. The ground crew were made from Victoria and Michael 4 models. Also Cybertenko's uniforms and props, made it possible to create realism to it. For the 2nd pilot of the female aviators, I chose Bellatrix for Genesis 8 Female(s) by Cherubit. Then as 1st pilot I chose Aubrey 8 by Daz Originals.
