Description
Thanks to Nabob21 it was brought to my attention that Raul Lunia passed away back in October of 2019. If there was mention here on Rendo I missed it. I only had a few brief correspondence with him here and there and he even randomly complimented a few of my prehistoric images, for which I was honored and grateful. This link will take you to an Obit, but you have make an account to get the full story. https://www.geni.com/people/Raul-Lunia/6000000011367677778 You'll have to copy and paste it to your browser window.
He was from Estonia and in his country was something of a famed animator. You can even find him on IMDB. He is associated with movies and TV series for kids and adults. Obviously around here he is famed for his numerous prehistoric models, fantasy monsters and towards the end a number of crazy and demonic creatures. I'd often wished he had posted more general artwork with his own creations, but it appears he had a full and busy life.
I wish him well in his afterlife and will sorely miss him for his work and for selfish reasons of not being able to obtain any more of his excellent models. I'm at a point in ZBrush now where I can do some basic sculpting to update some of his existing models for my own artwork. The example here is the newly modified tail and the more proper look of the sailback of Spinosaurus. In my last post I mention the new finds of a nearly complete tail and how it has changed the direction on thinking about Spinosaurus. I wish Raul was around to see these new things, but, perhaps, wherever he is he now he knows more than all of us.
To Raul Lunia I wish you lasting peace and a joyous afterlife and thank you for all you've done to inspire my creativity and to provide so many resources to indulge my love for the prehistoric world. You will be missed, but are forever memorialized.

Looks like a cool one, it has no defense against predators like some dinosaurs.

well done and yes, Raul will be missed. While I'm not much of a Dino artist, I had a weakness for his plant models. They are background foliage in many of my renders.

Another fantastic prehistoric scene, Art! As always, so beautifully done!
I had wondered what happened to Dinoraul.... Hadn't seen him for a long time. May he rest in peace.

Arthur i am very very sad about the loss of Raul. I had the pleasure to work in the past with him, asking his talent to make some dino for me and jim Kuether (MNArtist). Without him the 3d dinos community would not be the same.

So sad to hear about Raul's passing, I'm glad that you let us know about that as there is no way of knowing what happens to people on social media. Excellent adaptation of Raul's work, I'm sure he is pleased!
