Superman and Flash Face Darkseid by adorety ()

Description

Superman, Kal El, and the Flash, Wally West, stood before the giant being called Darkseid. As usual the large figure stood in a casual pose with his arms behind his back and hands clasped. He was a strange vision of everlasting cool and casual confidence that has rarely been broken.

The two figures had made there way through the seemingly deserted castle. They walked through the long courtyard and climbed the over sized stairs. Stairs that were built to accommodate it's owner, Darkseid. The air burned, smelled of sulfur and burning flesh. This was Wally's first time. The last time a speedster was here it was his predecessor Barry Allen as the Flash.

The two ascended a long staircase with a large figure with glowing red eyes watching as they approached. They finally made the landing where Darkseid stood.

In a deep, almost booming voice the Tyrant of Apokolips spoke. "Why are you here Kryptonian? Is this a breach of our truce? Please make it so."

"Sorry Darkseid, not today. We come for information. We recognize your vast knowledge of history in this universe and the station that you hold amongst others of your kind. You are powerful and power is to be respected. But I come seeking knowledge that I fear not even you might know, at the best or it could be knowledge that we all might fear at worst."

The glowing red eyes almost imperceptibly narrowed slightly. "Your acknowledgments are true, but as flattery, quite empty. But you intrigue me. What is it that you want to know?"

Wally kept silent. All this disgusted him and he wanted nothing more than to be away, but he was here to back up his friend. Kal was used to dealing with Darkseid, so, for once, he was happy to keep his mouth shut and let Supes do all the talking.

"I'm looking for anything you might know about entities called the Outer Gods and the Old Ones." Kal asked.

There was a sudden noise that sounded like steam being released, but it turned out to be Darkseid letting out a breath. Both superheroes saw that as a bad sign that such a question would get such a reaction from Darkseid. Darkseid's hands went from clasped behind his back to firmly on his hips.

"Why do you ask such a question?"

Kal replied. "In the last several decades on Earth there have been a few incidents of metablob, shapeshifting aliens trying to wreak havoc on Earth and sometime in Earth's history in the dates of the 1930s an entity, that went by the moniker of the Dark Pharaoh, rose up and spoke of both of these gods and old ones. He claimed to be a messenger of the Outer Gods. J'onn also was told a vision by an old and powerful magician that the Outer Gods were coming to Earth for a battle against the presumed leader of the Old Ones."

Darkseid looked up to the sky then to the left and right. His hands returned to their more usual and relaxed position clasped behind his back and his head bent down to face the two metahumans before him. "I will say this much. Had I known an Old One, especially if it is the leader of them all, was present on Earth, I never would have attacked. If it is there, then something is hiding it from my sight. When I am on your world I sense a vast presence at its center, but it is not that of something so ancient, but rather an energy that is connected to a network that reaches outward into subspace. My most recent research has led me to speculate that the White Lantern source is on your world and is surrounding something. Like a cage."
"Interesting. The White Lantern source. So perhaps it is keeping this old one caged? And you fear these gods?" Kal asked with some sense of alarm and surprise. He'd never known Darkseid to ever fear anything.

"Beings that are older than this universe that thrive on chaos should be feared by any and all things living within this universe."
"But what are they?" Kal pressed.

"They are entities from beyond this universe. They exist in the multiverse. Our universe is made up of many versions of possible realities, parallel dimensions where different timelines of all the same universe play out. But in the end it is still one universe and when it ends only one reality is the winner. This universe floats in a vast unimaginable realm where other universes are born and die. In this multiversal space, the Outer Gods and the Old Ones seek out to infiltrate these universes and where they succeed, their chaos devours and disrupts the fabric of time, space and the material universe. They are far worse than what the Anti Monitor was. He was confined to this universe and even if he had transformed it, if destroyed, he would be destroyed along with it. The Outer Gods and the Old Ones war against one another for universes. And to them it is as much a game as it is for survival."

Darkseid continued. "The leader of the Old Ones, I will not say his name out loud. My power is too great and should I say it even here, he could very likely awake and speed up this oncoming battle. Suffice it to say he is protected from normal attack. He is one entity with multiple selves. He likely has many aspects of himself on many versions of Earth. Probably not all, but likely many, especially ones with meta humans like you. Some of his strength is drawn from mortals worshiping him. On worlds or Earths where magic does not exist, is likely free of his presence. But his power is great and so non worship may not protect a world that is in chaos. Such as an Earth of constant war without it's people united under one ruler."
"Such as you." Wally finally quipped.

Darkseid turned to focus on the Scarlet Speedster and noted his new hi tech helmet. "Yes, such as me. Despite what you think, I bring law and order and abhor chaos. War is a means to bring about eventual order..."

Kal cut him off. "No time for philosophical debates. What else can you tell us of this leader, the Outer Gods or the Dark Pharaoh?"

Darkseid rumbled. "I've told you enough. If what you say is true then there is little that can be done. I can still see beyond the veil if I concentrate and I see your Batman of Earth 9 has traveled outside this universe."

"What!" Both superheroes said at the same time.

"Yes. He is in a place I cannot see nor go. Something tells me he will have the information you will need. Now go. For once, it seems I must wish you well. It is likely only you metas and your mortal friends will have a chance to stop the upcoming battle. I will offer this advice. This universe will be doomed if either side wins, so I suggest you find a way or a reason for no battle to occur."

"You are powerful and can help us. Will you not take this chance bring our worlds closer?" Kal tried to use some reason.

Darkseid actually laughed. "The word of law in our truce forbids me, besides I would not help. If you fail, it will not matter, but if you save this universe then someday I will return to bring proper order to your world and make it one of my own. Your deeds have cost me many worlds and I will only stand for that for so long. Now go or I declare a breach of our agreement."

The two superheroes looked at each other and turned to go. As they descended the steps and moved through the courtyard Kal's super hearing heard Darkseid give some parting words. "Good luck Kryptonian, the Universe is depending on you and your Alliance."

Thanks for stopping by. I beefed Darkseid up a bit more than the last image, to get him a bit more like the usual depictions. Everyone be well. Stay home and make art, write, play music, cook something special take some walks around your back yard, finally clean out that closet and in no time we'll be back to normal.

Fantastic storywriting, Art, and of course "super" artwork of these heroes - and anti-heroes...

Indeed - learn a new skill... I've become quite adept at wall-climbing of late... 😆
