A little background here: For those who do not know, Djinn is a natural-born hybrid Were and Vampire. He's close to 400 hundred years old - Glory's 'old man', she calls him. She's only 25 years old. They were both born on Earth but now they're all on another planet - Fiera. Earth was destroyed in the story.
"I wish I could have met you back then - on Earth," Glory said as she snuggled up beside Djinn in the dark.
"No you don't. I was a total rotten punk. A bad-ass. I wouldn't have gotten anywhere near you, for your own good," he replied with great conviction.
"I could have died on any given night, but I didn't," he sighed. "No. It wasn't me. All I was thinking about was the money I was making. It's like those guys that played football in the League. They got beaucoup money for putting themselves out there to be broken. Damaged goods. That's so they had money to invest in something later...because they weren't going to do that all their lives. They'd break eventually.
"You know from your uncle - that kind of life breaks you in other ways. You're just out for the purse. You didn't spend any of it, unless you go get yourself a new dependable ride. It's a crap way to live, sweetheart. You wouldn't have liked me much. I didn't even like me. Don't think you could have saved me from myself or anything, because I was the only one that could do that. When it was back in France, it was different mostly. You could predict people a lot easier than once we started in the States. The Americans were bat-shit crazy. Wild. They'd do ANYthing, because it was the 'Wild West'. So, we had to be prepared to do anything, too. Fire with fire. Bad times. You never knew if whoever was coming at you was friend or foe. Sometimes it was one pretending to be the other, if you catch my drift. I wouldn't go back now if you paid me - or it was there to go back to."
"Not even for a Maserati or a custom hog?" she teased him. All the hunters loved their bikes and missed them badly. That was fact.
"I've got a horse," Djinn answered stoically. "That's better. And I've got you. That's better than all those things."
"You're sure about that?"
"Yup, pretty sure. You gonna talk all night, or what?" he laughed, clamping his hand over her mouth. She bit one of his fingers. "That's my girl!"

Sometimes you have to experience the dark to be able to see the light..
Excellent work on this scene, Ray. Sounds like a wonderfully dark tale...

Awesome image Ray!! I really really like this character (Djinn).....he looks like he is 'bad to da bone'....but I don't think he's all that bad, because he's got 'heart'.....which makes me think that there's more good in him than bad. I like him, and I'd feel safe with him, if he were my friend. I really like the story lines too......I hope you tell us more about this amazing character!! I likey!!
