Description
Holts' work on the planets was from an Astrological rather than an Astronomical viewpoint. I have tried to incorporate both the astrological and the astronomical in the series so far. In this I heard the music not as an antidote to the next image (Mars) but as an aftermath. I was trying to encapsulate a celestial being, a planet, a piece of music and some of the symbols that have been used to represent Venus in the past. Here i have used her as one of the spoils of war, but also as the god of love, and eroticisim. I suppose I am working my way to the next piece: Mars. The piece of music from holst that first highlighted the set. I could listen to Mars, and Jupiter over and over again. In fact I've listened more carefully to the pieces than I ever have. The version that sounds the best is from Sir Charles Groves. These I have listened to repeatedly and I feel make the music sing (you can search for the name and find them on you tube). I urge you to have a listen.
