Description
At the begining of the war 71 B-339C and B-339D models (exportversions of the F2A-2) arrived in the Dutch East Indies.
After some fights the Dutch halved the fuel and ammo load in the wing, which allowed their Buffalos to stay with the Ki-43 in turns.
In February 1942, eight Buffalos attacked a Japanese bomber formation consisting of 35 bombers and a escort of 20 Mitsubishi A6M Zeros.
Eleven Japanese aircraft were shot down at four own losses.
Only four airworthy Dutch Buffalos remained on March 1942.

Great picture and well made texture on the Buffalo. Yes, the story of the Dutch East Indies in ww2 is seldom told. There were the first big sea battles in the Far East and one of the first big losses of allied ships (beside Pearl Harbour). On land the Dutch had nothing to throw against the Japanese and the local people wanted not to help the Dutch against the Japanese. So the islands were conquered very fast.
