When they were giving S&H Green Stamps at gas stations the normal procedure when pulling onto a gas station was for the gas station attendant to walk up to the drivers side of the automobile and asked 'Fill er up?', followed by 'check the oil?', and proceeded to clean the windshield without comment. Gas at the time when I remember getting those stamps ran between about 35 to 45 cents per gallon.
Well these stamps are no longer being used, they disappeared. This gas station also no longer exists, it bit the dust when the new freeway system was completed and the old U.S. Route 66 was being by-passed. This old station is located along the old U.S. Route 66 near Truxton, between Peach Springs and Kingman, Arizona.

Now this is a real stroll down memory lane with Green Stamps and "Fill 'er up?" Believe it or not I used to do that when I was a kid hanging around at the Sinclair station my older brother worked at. If he was too busy to get to the pump then I ran out at the ding-ding.

I have passed there several times but missed seeing this old relic. when I first moved to Texas and was not on a job I would drive on of their trucks to pickup materials or deliver. they had a pump at the plant, but I would wait until I found a gas station that gave green stamps. the one I drove often held 100 gallons and you can imagine just how many green stamps I could get. the supervisor of the plant asked me once why did I did not get gas there. I told him I was already out a long ways from the plant when I realized I needed fuel. I did try again. anyway one trip I drove to Southern Louisiana then north to Fayetteville, Ark. I could rack up some serious stamps

Brings back all sorts of fond memories Sig. Glad you stopped. I remember the days of Green Stamps and what appears today to be cheap gas. When I made $222 a month as a 2nd LT, even 29 cents a gallon seemed a stretch:-)

Great catch! Way back in 2009, you made a nice comment about my "Out to Sea" image. Most of the other commentators are gone from Renderosity. Thanks again!
