Description

Saw this big black crow sitting on a grave stone in the somewhat spooky St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah and immediately recalled Edgar Alan Poe's poem, "The Raven"... Of course, I was reminded that a raven is much larger than a crow,...but I protested, "But it is a bird and it is black." But paying my entreaty no heed, this ebony visitor simply turned and said one word, "Nevermore"...

Nice catch. You might have won your argument if you had told the bird it was sitting on the wrong grave marker and that Poe is buried in Baltimore.

A very appropriate perch for this black bird, and quite spooky. I love all the moss hanging from the trees it makes this a much more friendly place. 😄

And a few trees away his buddies are chuckling, "Looks like Ralph got another one to take his picture!" LOL

Fun and nicely exposed shot, Bill! Even with all the variations in light and shadow you managed to get a great photo!

The crows that we have known all our lives around here are now said to be ravens....we have no crows apparently...unlike the Tower of London....around here they look exactly the same.

Nice photo and cool text! The raven was what I first thought of, too. Keep up the good work! :-)

what would you have thought as well as each person that view this if the marker's names were the Crows?

right on, richard---that would be the payoff: All these people are named "crow". And lol Rod: All the other crows are placing bets that this dude won't get another pic taken---and you come along ("another sucker!" they're crying...) (and it would be even better if, after you left, the bird ripped off his 'cover', and he was really a cardinal...) You got a softness here that is spooky and mystical, and somehow feels very much like the "mythic south". It has a beautiful dreamy feel. And the light is beautiful too, with those diagonal shadows from the trees. And it's great to read the stones---love that you included those front stones, so we can see some of the dates (for the Herman couple). A lush almost cottony capture; has real mood. (And I love reading tara in your gallery---I guess she hated this shot, lol: She's not here...but she always has an intimate perspective, and comments on how you got the whole thing whereas she got a balustrade and a cat...so what happened here: she's boycotting this shot?) Very atmospheric, moody work, Bill.
