"Oh. My. God. Is he ...? At a crime scene?!"

"Performing the Rites of Thanos? Yep. Third Invocation too, if I'm not mistaken."

"Thank heaven. For a minute there I thought I'd have to arrest him. Again."

"That was Moriarty's fault and you damn well know it, Inspector. Besides, what could you possibly charge him with? Wearing frilly knickers in public? Didn't know you were the fashion police too."

"Practicing Necromancy without a licence. Though from the looks of it he probably doesn't need a licence. You might have told me, Dr. Watson."

"You didn't guess?"

"Hell no, I didn't guess. I thought all that talk about him not being human was just that. Talk. You know how superstitious people can be when it comes to Mages. Even ones that consult for the ... waitaminnit, did you say Thanos? As in ..."

"The one and only. Didn't you see the ring? Your victim was a Hand Maiden. That's one rank below High Priestess. And they don't commit suicide in her sect."

"Not even when they're depressed over being pregnant and abandoned?"

"Now you're spouting Gregson's theory. No, not even then. The Temple would have kept them both. Gods, even Thanos, are particularly fond of children."

"So it was murder. I'm not going to like this, am I?"

"Can't say as I'd blame you there. Things do tend to get rather messy whenever Death is involved."
