La Geria is the most important wine region of Lanzarote. The vineyards look quite different than in most countries. Here you will find one or more vines planted in a deep pitch wich is enclosed by a tiny wall of lava stone.
The reason for that: Lanzarote hardly has rain, but is has sea mist coming from the Atlantic Ocean. The moisture of the mist gathers in the pitch and the water that is collected that way is enough to let the vine grow..
Strongly recommended is enlarging this picture. Only then you will see the magnificent structures.
