Description

Japanese restaurants of all sizes place plastic or wax models of the food they serve in the window. Thus one has a clear idea of what is served there instead of just a menu or even photos.

OMG! Sampuru! (samples) I recall these as mostly faded into whatever the basic material was, thus the actual dish was quite a surprise from what was shown. It was like playing a guessing game: I think I'll try the yellowish item 2nd from the left. Then you find out that it was really a colorful plate of veggies and probably pork with a dark sauce. Washed down with Kirin and green tea it was all exciting and tasty.

The big bowl of soup for 430 looks like one of my favorites. Loved those noodle soups. Back then the exchange rate was 360 to the $1. Even with inflation and the current exchange rates, these are decent prices.
