Welcome to Zion National Park. Zion is Utah's first national park. Zion Canyon is surrounded by massive canyon walls that ascend toward a brilliant blue sky. To experience Zion, you need to walk among the towering cliffs, or challenge your courage on one of the hiking trails. These unique sandstone cliffs range in color from cream, to pink, to red. They could be described as sand castles crowning desert canyons. Although the Virgin River looks like it carved out this canyon, actually glaciers and flash flooding did all the work. Some info from the National Park Service website. Photo taken in early 1996 and scanned. I had posted 6 photos from Zion the last few days of January 2011. Check out the trees along the bottom to realize how tall the canyon walls really are. This will zoom.
Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments.
They are very much appreciated.

A super photo of this impressive place! As I've said before, A level Geography would have been even more interesting with colour photos like this.

I LOVE this. Zion National Park is one of my favorite places. Now living in the Netherlands that is one thing I do miss is the colorful formations found in southern Utah and northern Arizona. Thanks so much for sharing.
