Description
Found this relic of the gilded age, in the Lightner Museum in Saint Augustine, Florida. It was on display in the United States, at the Columbian Exposition of 1893, in Chicago, Illinois. It was on loan from the winter palace, of the Russian Czar, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The mosaic design is created from malachite, a copper ore from the Ural Mountains in Russia. Information from the display with no explanation as to why it is still in the United States. The actual urn and pedestal is about 3 feet (.9144 meters) high and fills the room where it is on display. It will zoom nicely.
Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments.
They are very much appreciated.
Dana

Beautiful stone in that urn. I also like the way you show the size of it by including the entire room in the photo.

Wow what i great object I love Malachite I have some small specimens of It in the raw but that is beautiful, as to your comment about why it's still in the US, I did wonder If It was because of the Russian Revolution but that was twenty years later.

Beautiful photo of an exquisite work of art. I wonder if it is all one solid piece of malachite. In such case, this is extremely rare. Thanks for comment on my last post. Keep up the good work! :-)

A beautiful piece, but probably a bit heavy to move for dusting...I don't think I have a room it would fit into!

Gorgeous color and patterns. One of my favorite stones. The Mayans also used it and I have a Mayan head in malachite my parents left me.

Fine-looking urn in an equally finely-furnished setting. Like the warm ambience of the place.
Can I pilfer some of the nice trinkets sitting in the glass display cases in the background?
