Description
Olé! Tillandsia usneoides.
This is about 10 cm long, from the ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains in California, blown down by the wind. It seems to grow best on oaks and madrones, exposed to fog, and as it turns out a main enemy is ... wind. I call it "Spanish Moss", but wikipedia doesn't say anything about Spanish Moss in California. They do say "It is also used by some as the filling for traditional voodoo dolls." I'll remember that next time I need one.
