The Sims Expansion Pack to beat them ALL: New emotions, New aspirations. New calibres of AA.... ;-)
The destroyer USS Sims (DD-409), one of the perhaps lesser known casualties of the Battle of the Coral Sea, was the lead ship of her class, 106m long, 1600 tons and launched 8 April 1939. I've modelled the Sims-class to provide a wider choice of escorts for fleet renders for early Pacific Theatre battles. A problem is that there were often diverse types of destroyer present in the same task force, so I have a way to go yet.
The crews of USS Sims and those of many other destroyers picked up paint brushes to adopt more drastic "measures" following the outbreak of hostilities in the Pacific, such as a mottled camoflague "Modified Measure 12"- where the usual scheme of blue hull paint and grey for superstructure is overlapped in contrasting patches or stripes to make identifying the vessel's class at a distance more difficult. The texture here represents another Sims-class destroyer present during the Coral Sea battle, USS Walke (DD 416)- here the guys hanging off the ship's side seemed to have kept a vision of beer froth solidly in mind...

Pretty cool render, Brian. I really like the point of view. The ship camo subject is pretty fascinating to research. Just doing some renders with it gives you an idea of its effectiveness. I really like these close up observer vantage point pictures. It brings the viewer right into the action. Very nice work.

The model looks fine. I like the perspective with the ship in the background. Like steelrazer I like such pictures too.

Nicely done. Had to thing hard for a moment, despite recently reading several books about the very early part of the Pacific war ("Shattered Sword" and "The First Team" - both recommended reads!). Sims was lost while escorting the auxiliary Neosho... they were the supposedly well clear of the battle area, but it turns out the Japanese sent a full strike in their direction. They had no chance...
