As Batman, Bruce raced through the night to Arkham Woods. As he approached from the Southeast he could see the tops of the towers for the new Gotham Energy Center to the south and west of the woods. Looking northwest he could see a low and dim cloud hovering above the treeline about two miles in. He was on a slight rise and had a good vantage point to view the surroundings.
He took the maneuverable bike off road and onto foot trails and was at the site of the cloud in about five minutes moving at a near break neck speed for off road travel. The cloud was not much smoke, but mostly dust kicked up from the now collapsed, original Arkham Asylum.
Parking the bike he looked around the perimeter and climbed gingerly atop some of the debris. Nothing stood out as any kind of clue, so he looked around the grounds some more and identified the tracks of two large and heavy SUVs. Likely armed and armored. He saw they split off at a fork in the old lane that led to the asylum. One went west and the other east and would eventually meet the main road that went north and south.
Just then, a call came into Bruce's comm. It was Fox. “Bruce?”
“Here Fox.” Bruce replied
“Julia is en route to the safe house, but my men think they might be being tailed. I'll send you the tracking ID for the transport.” Bruce headed over to the Batcycle and looked at a circular indicator on the bike's crowded dash. A moving blip could be seen moving along the county route 579 and it was only minutes from here, at least the way Bruce drove.
“Got it Lucius, I'm on my way.” Evidence indicated he arrived here, probably only ten or fifteen minutes late. Judging from the boot prints everywhere he estimated that besides the mechs there were about twenty people that had been here.
Bruce sped through the woods and trails at an angle, trying to close the distance between him and his target. In a few minutes he was on a dirt road above CR579 and he could see traffic moving along the road. This route could be busy at times as a secondary road for commuters between Gotham and the suburbs. He soon spotted the black SUV that would be carrying Julia and a couple cars back another black SUV.
The dirt road and main road were coming to a bend with main route rising up. He'd be able to cut through the trees and down the slope ahead to make the road. Approaching the bend, he moved off the dirt trail and pointed the bike down the slope and burst out onto the road amidst screeching brakes and honking horns. Actually none of the other vehicles were ever in any danger, but they didn't know that.
Looking at the bike's dash the signal showed Julia's ride less than a mile ahead. Bruce accelerated the bike and sped ahead and weaved through the moving traffic on the two lane road and in less than a minute spied the tailing black SUV a few cars ahead. And two more cars ahead of that was a Wayne Industries standard bullet proof SUV. Bruce guessed no move had been made because of traffic, but now the traffic quickly thinned out as cars took tertiary routes to various housing developments in the area.
The vehicle carrying Julia had passed the route to the safe house, realizing they were being followed, but now with no other cars around, the tailing SUV sped up. Bruce raced ahead as a hatch on top of the Blazer opened and a figure popped out with a hand held rocket launcher. The Wayne vehicle would not withstand that.

Bruce flipped a couple switches on his dash and a targeting system came online for four on board rockets. Twin 10mm guns extended out in front as well. He did not want to kill, but he could not let Julia be killed either, since she is the only one that can save Diana. Bruce targeted the road near the Blazer with the rockets and fired. One rocket hit the road embankment on the right ahead of the blazer and the other hit the pavement just ahead on the driver's side causing the SUV to swerve and the rocket fired by the figure to miss a direct hit on the Wayne SUV carrying Julia. But the rocket launched from the chasing SUV hit the road on driver's side causing the Wayne SUV to also swerve. At the same time, back panels on the enemy SUV opened and machine gun fire began to assault Batman. The bike was armored with strong and lightweight materials and so, protected the rider as long as he kept low. The 20mm guns had some aiming ability and Batman fired back. But he saw the figure on the roof aiming another rocket, so he too targeted the SUV again and fired. One rocket hit the road on the passenger side causing the driver to swerve and the other hit the road just under the SUV's rear. The swerve caused the shooter to miss the Wayne SUV again, but the subsequent explosion from the fired rocket hitting the road caused the driver of Julias protective SUV, to lose control and ride up the embankment on the right roadside causing it to roll onto its side and slide across the road to be abruptly stopped by a telephone pole in the oncoming traffic lane. Luckily the road was clear right now. At the same time, the rocket from Batman's bike that struck below the enemy SUV caused it to lurch and buck up from the rear. The back axle was damaged and when the rear came back down the axle broke in half and the SUV came to a sudden stop on right side of the road. The figure with the rocket launcher had been thrown like a rag doll to the road and was now motionless with the broken launcher many feet away. Bruce did not want anyone to die, but his primary concern was for Julia's, and by proxy, Diana's safety. As Bruce approached the black Blazer, the back and sides flew open and five figures swarmed out and took positions defended by open doors. Two fired automatic weapons back at Batman and the two began firing at the Wayne Tech SUV on its side. Shots were returned from the SUV, so Bruce was relieved to hear that someone was still alive. He fired at the enemy Blazer as he approached, but the bullets were deflected. Out of rockets, he brought the bike to a skidding halt sideways. He was low on supplies, since he hadn't had time to replenish his battarangs. He threw out a couple of smoke bombs as he saw the fifth figure shoulder up another rocket launcher. Without hesitation, Batman ran forward as two of the assault team fired blindly into the smoke. With his last three flash stunners in hand he threw them just before the rocket launcher fired, stunning all five that were partially shielded by the broken vehicle. Continued...
