This was the cover of the first edition of the tutorial book "Le Grand Livre d’Illustrator" (The Big Illustrator Book), published (in French) by Dunod in 2004 and still on sale 5 years later (it was reprinted this summer). This manual is one of the first software tutorial books which has a comic heroin, namely Silvia. Here the young woman, aged 25, is diving to see an alien space shuttle which has sunk in shallow water. Be prudent, little Silvia, if the aliens come back, it can be very dangerous for you and your family. Of course most of this drawing was made in Illustrator (Ai10). The original BW ink drawing was hand-made, then it was vectorized with Free Soft Silhouette Pro and the colors added in full vector mode. But this adventure drawing is also a tutorial, so the book’s readers can assemble the separate elements and, discovering many functions of Illustrator step-by-step, assemble the scene. I will post Silvia diving 1 later, so don’t miss it! If you enjoy this drawing you would be probably be pleased to see this comic page (which shows Silvia much younger), if not already done:
Silvia 16, comic page creation 5, color page
To know more about the adventures of Silvia, you can visit the site of the comic project:
"Silvia (the adventures of Silvia Robin)"
This site is entirely bi-lingual (french/english), except for the balloons which are only in french. The access to comic pages needs, as said in my current homepage, a secret code. But without code, there are now 66 drawings in 3 galleries to enjoy!

Beautiful illustration! I really like the sense of light above with the different shades of blue. The green fish is really cool too. Very interesting information and excellent image.

To Jydekris: not only I use Illustrator but it is one of my preferred softwares, as my gallery shows. This illustration includes hand-drawn elements (drawn with India ink), which were vectorized then colored and mixed with elements that were directly drawn in Illustrator, all the color was done in Illustrator, hence it is a true vector file (Ai10 compatible, and downgraded as an Ai9 file). I have participated as illustrator to the Big Illustrator Book (see above text), and I am known as an expert of this software in my country.
