Finished book cover for Beast of the Bells.
I've had this ready for uploading for a while. This was made almost a year ago as my first cover for Mudania Press, but I'm still quite happy with the way it came out.
Getting the skin right was quite a challenge, as the author's description was of a very, VERY dark-skinned man, but in reality dark colours are difficult to get detail into when printing, and we didn't want the front cover to be a black blob. In the end, I think I used a mix of Nuru 2 and Zere (lluque's and Morris's respectively) which seems to have work nicely.
Background is mostly done with DAZ' Cyclorama/Environment, but rendering at full size Poser just choked and killed itself with all those transmapped plants. In the end, I had to render the 14.5"x9.5"@300dpi cover in small chunks of around 300px and then put it all together in Photoshop (no, Vue or Bryce weren't an option at the time). And it then require a lot of extra painting to give it more of a "jungle" environment. Lots of work, but it was tremendously educational, I think.
