Subject: Library window missing in Poser 11.3.818

Christolking ( ) posted Wed, 07 October 2020 at 2:57 PM · edited Wed, 17 April 2024 at 8:38 AM

New download of Poser 11.3.818 to MacBook Air

Main page loads with default La Femme character and Libraries panel completely whited out. Box is checked in the windows menu. Library files are where they were for 11.2. Possible to drag the .crz file to the window and load a figure but no other way to access library content. My runtime folder and libraries are in a Poser 11 folder in my Applications. Does Poser 11 want to see them somewhere else? I often had trouble with figures missing materials and such in 11.2. Is there a map anywhere for where the files should be for optimum use? Help welcome.

Hi @Christolking, can you report what macOS version you are running, please? Some screen shots would be helpful, too. ⇧⌘4 to capture them.

Apart from the main application runtime, which typically shouldn't contain any content, The Poser 11 content would normally reside in /Users/Shared/Poser 11 Content. If something has happened to your Poser library preferences to corrupt them, you might see no libraries in the library pane. Can you provide a screenshot so we can see if the library buttons at the top are visible at all or completely missing. If they're present, you could try adding back the Runtimes.

However, if something has gone drastically wrong, it might be simpler to try reinstalling Poser 11.3.818.

Thanks an0malaus,

I'm running OS 10.14.6. there is nothing in the users/shared folder because I directed all Poser 11 stuff to go into my Applications/Poser 11 folder. That has worked fine in the past although the app is always hunting for missing files for legacy figures like Pauline or Roxie. Screen shot attached. Screen Shot 2020-10-08 at 3.45.48 PM.png

In my Poser>Window menu, I see this: Screen Shot 2020-10-09 at 6.47.21 pm.png

The tick next to the Libraries item tells me to expect the library palette to be visible, somewhere. What does yours show? I ask, since the Library Palette may be docked or floating, and if it's floating, it's possible that it could be behind Poser's main window. Dragging the corner of Poser's main window might reveal the library, if it is visible and just hidden behind, but we need to establish whether it's supposed to be visible at all, first.

[Edited]

Actually, now that I look closer, you have the docking icon and refresh arrow circle at the bottom right that implies that the library palette is visible, but empty. Strange.

What happens if you click the refresh arrow circle at the bottom right?

Also, what happens if you undock (make floating) the library palette via its top, right dropdown menu? Does it show anything different. Can you resize it when it's floating?

The next thing to ask is what files do you see in /Users//Library/Application Support/Poser Pro/11/? Is there a LibraryPrefs.xml file in there? What are its contents? If that file were missing, or corrupted or truncated, you might see something like what you do.

an0malaus, Thanks, refreshing the Libraries window with the virtually invisible icon in the bottom right corner did populate the window. However, almost all the legacy figures are now missing from the menus. And I notice that if I drag a legacy figure file to the window or open it from where it is filed i get the La Femme figure instead. Is this the new company policy? Trouble is, the La Femme figure has fewer features and morphs than some of the legacy figures.

To answer your other question: users/shared/Library/Application Support/Poser/11has only 3 files: Poser.dta, PoserActivation.dta, and PoserReg.dta

BTW: The app is UI buggy in ways I would like to share at some point, but I don't want to do a lot of fussing when you have helped me out. Two small things to look at: Couldn't the default for the editing window be to open with the Select arrow button rather than the Translate/Pull button? (I often end up dragging a figure when I am just trying to select a body part.)

The arrow for changing body parts etc. at the top of the parameter dials window will default to the dragging hand and accidentally pop the window loose.

Really appreciate the help. Chris

Urk. I tried to type "your-username" within angle brackets, but the editor thought it was formatting stuff and left it out. I actually wanted you to look in /Users/your-username/Library/Application Support/Poser/11, rather than the shared one, which just has licensing stuff in it for Poser. The one under your own home folder has the actual preferences for Poser that we need to check up on. It may also have older preferences saved in folders that start with 11_datestamp. These are saved every time you install a new version of Poser on macOS, an older one will probably still have your LibraryPrefs.xml containing all of your other libraries. You can try copying one of those back over the top of the 11 folder's files, but make sure to do it when Poser isn't running, as Poser will overwrite things when it exits.

Thanks an0malaus, I found the preference files. Of course there is both a Poser 11 and a Poser 11 Pro folder now and I have to figure how much I want to mess what around. Since in the past my Runtime folder was outside the Content folder I find I have to make copies of stuff and drop them in the new runtime folder. I don't have a good idea of where the program is 'looking' or where files should be for optimum use. Since Poser 'shifted gears' with different characters and builds, each character has a slightly different set of 'handles'. (And sometimes a hair file is in the hair library and sometimes the figure library. Sometimes hair is an object and sometimes a figure. Sometimes it automatically sees the head as its parent and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes a breast is part of the chest, sometimes the collarbone, and sometimes has its own category. Well, I'll ease off, but I hope there is a developer or three at Bondware assigned to rationalizing the whole library.

Take care, Chris
