Quote - Well, you are beyond my skills set now, my son.  I can no longer help you.  Go forth and render ....

Seriously, nice job, but I'm a Poser 7 user and have enough trouble with the more limited render settings of that program.  Someone else needs to step up with further advise on the artifacts front.

I'll keep an eye open for further examples of your work though.  Again, very nice job.

Rªnce

Well, it's not really my skillset, so much as that of Bagginsbill, and the capabilities of Poser Pro 2012, that is demonstrated there... he he ;) I really can take very little credit!

I've pretty much just posed there... and rendered, with a moderate understanding of the ins-and-outs... I would have to admit.

I wouldn't say I've yet got your eye for the subtleties of posing a figure either Rance...

...I'd certainly like to see what you could do with the newer PP2012 tools! I have them really just by merit of coming in late to this game.

Anyway... your help and input so far is much appreciated :)

Well, I put this magnifying glass shader to use in my entry for the January Poser Forum Challenge.

However, I'm going to carry on and see if I can refine it some more... I hope to try to get more insight into what was causing some of the render artifacts I was seeing, for one thing...

...so further test / sample renders still to come ;)

I'm probably going to put my foot in it for saying this Saxon3d, and it's way off topic... just a little artistic critique if I may. your large stylized signature on your images really distracts from your compositions... have you ever considered this? Other than copyright issues, what purpose does it serve to the art?

I had a really nice painting (or so I thought at the time) when I was younger be rejected as a submission for a showing at the San Francisco Art Institute because of the glaring presence of my signature... Perhaps I'm hyper conscious of such things because of this.

Anyway, just curious and don't mean to offend. It's your work after all...

(all right, back to Fallout New Vegas).

no offence taken Primorge, not that I think my image is good enough to be borrowed by someone else, but after the recent Facebook image borrowing thread I thought protection was best. Now if anyone wants to design me a nice "Saxon3d" signature, that's another matter..........

:sneaky:

primorge ( ) posted Sat, 09 February 2013 at 2:24 AM · edited Sat, 09 February 2013 at 2:31 AM

Sure I'll design you one... It'll be in my freebies sometime tomorrow!

Just kidding. You realize that someone could very easily remove that signature in photoshop right? Anyway, Take a look around at some art other than what is posted in the Renderosity galleries in any medium and observe the proliferation of big signatures! Notice the scale of Monkeycloud's signature also.

Critique is simply a part of any "normal" artistic dialogue... my only other advice is to say it's not the graphic quality of your sig, it's the scale in relation to your art. I really liked your render for the challenge otherwise. Very well thought out and executed, plus I enjoy detailed imagery.

:)

I do seriously appreciate your input Primorge, photoshop is a weakness, I have been intending to create a smaller more professional looking signature either in Poser or a modeling program but rendering those damn diamonds and lenses 100 times almost drained me of life let alone inspiration for my sig LOL

I shall be watching your freebies with keen interest :) something rustic yet futuristic might be nice...............................................................................................................

Critique is always welcome, especially when it is offered in the manner of yours.......I see errors in my image this morning, am I perfectionist enough to correct them and run the gauntlet of another 6 hour render on my one Laptop ? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm we shall see :)

For my Illustration type stuff with pen and ink and then finished in photoshop I generally sign the work... You'll see the sig in the right corner. very discreet. I don't think I've ever signed a poser image yet but I'm relatively new to the medium sorta. Copyright of original work in the internet age is a complicated thing.

(image is very large in it's original .psd file, so there's alot of compression in .jpg format)

Saxon3d ( ) posted Sat, 09 February 2013 at 3:11 AM

that's awesome primorge, very impressive indeed, my artistic strength is shall we say limited to stick men and cats that look like anything but cats.

I'm working on a new image atm, I'll see if I can do something about my sig on this one :)

primorge ( ) posted Sat, 09 February 2013 at 3:26 AM

Well I think I've blathered on enough... Download Gimp if you don't have photoshop. My opinion is that any artist working in CG should have an image editor in their toolbox, I can't imagine being without one even if I were only doing traditional media (i.e digital documentation).

good night.

The worm image is seriously awesome.  Very nice.  I am glad you found the links useful.  There is a great deal of information hanging on the pages of Renderosity.  Many years of Poser exploration and testing, and many generous contributions from talents the likes of bagginsbill.

My hat is off ...

Beautiful bit of drawing there Primorge. Great to see!

Thanks for the gallery comment by the way... the trilobite is by Alien Ant Farm... called "Pill Bug" I think, got in on sale recently along with a few other Alien Ant Farm bits and pieces...

Reverse the shape of the glass.

WARK!
