Stevie-rae -- October 2003's Artist Of The Month!

MonkeyLek · October 6, 2003 1:47 pm

Who is 'Stevie-rae'? Hi there, I'd like to say a big "Thank you!" to all the people who voted me Artist of the Month. Stevie-rae is my amazing 3 year old son. My name is Steve Townsend and I am currently residing in the UK, England, North of Yorkshire, where I live and work as a professional freelance Artist and Builder, with my partner Lisa and son Stevie Rae. How long have you have you been rendering/doing computer graphics? It's been a little over 3 years. I got started in CG by a friend who used of 3Dmax. It looked like a great way out of not having to use a rubber...if you now what I mean. Do you have traditional art experience? Yes, I had a strange dream about James Whistlers' "Mother". Other than that, just the normal schooling. I was meant to go to art college but the wheels fell off! What are you currently working on? My website, which feels like hard labour. I should pay someone to do it for me, but I won't because I'm a bit of a control freak. I'll have to start something soon though! I've had this mad jester in my head for a long time and he won't leave, you can see him in a few of my images. Maybe I'm not doing him right, so I might have another crack at evicting him. What software/equipment do you use and why? Lightwave, Zbrush and Photoshop. These are the packages that have been the most enjoyable to learn and become fluid in, leaving me to create without thinking to much about what I'm doing on the technical side. What do you think your best piece of work is and why? The Fury for the great response it's had from people and the enjoyment I got from creating it. Why do you like to work with 3D software? No cleaning up ! Who / what inspires you? Viewing other artists' work is my main inspiration and I think the best way to focus on who you are your own work. I admire Mark Ryden's work very much. How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning? I'd say it's improved my work from being a real positive experience, in every way. There doesn't seem to be the negativity and emptiness you get on some of forums that I've been on. There's a sense of balance and consistency here...Cool! Parting Comments / Advice to other Artists? Get involved in experiencing other forms of art, outside the computer. Photography, sculpting, ect. The more experience you have in the real world, the richer and more enjoyable your computer art will become. But remember not to clean up after you finish ! Thanks for havin' me! :) All the Best, ~Steve. Click here to visit Stevie-rae's gallery...
